having a problem when going to start position on column

When i try starting my truck most times i get a pause of 2-5 seconds before it starts cranking then fires right up. its a 7.3 2002

That could be anything. You will have to start narrowing it down to know for sure what it is. Relay K22 is the start relay. You can try to shift it to nuetral and see of it cranks right up if its an automatic. Since its intermittent, its going to be hard to check. You need to figure out if the small wire at the starter is getting power when the key is turned if you have someone u trust to turn the key with u under it. If it is and has the delay, its the starter. IF it is not, it could be the relay, the electrical part of the ignition switch, or the nuetral safety switch in an auto (clutch pedal switch manual).
