carb choices for my 400... idea's, advice, your 2 cents

i have a 400, 9.5:1 351c pistons, lunati voodoo cam 268/276, streetmaster intake, shaved heads(ported&polished), 600 holley, headers, procomp hei dist, dynomax race bullets, 2 1/2" exhaust 3" dumps, 4 spd toploader. i just changed from a comp high energy cam to the cam. the 600 holley is tired an wore out an has many problems (needs rebuilt). i worked alot of OT an finally getting my spooled 8.8 with 3.55's. i talked to summit they reccomended an aed 750ho for performance, jegs said bg750 speed demon, proform said their 750 street series, quickfuel said their hr series the 680cfm or 750cfm depending on if i want electric choke etc, bg demon said a 750 speed demon or 750 mighty demon make sure it has annular boosters an mech 2nd's, edelbrock said their avs line but i'm not an eddy guy no offence they are ok but not my cup of tea, holley said 670 street avenger or 650 double pumper. i really like the mighty demon. also i need it big enough for the engine i am going to build next a mild 9:1 460. i dunno anything bout aed. i read some bad things bout demon an proform but demon's tech help was way above par. also i posted this in the carb section but no replies sorry for repost but i get paid tommrrow an monday i'm ordering so i need advice asap thanks leland

750 cfm annular!

I've been running the quick fuel carbs and love them for the price. the 750 annular and definetly try the 1 to 1 linkage. Makes it run like fuel injection. But to do this your gonna need to do some jet changes to square up carb. meaning like if 70 jet front and then a 72 in back or something similar. the annular help on the lowend torque. No complaints with quick fuel so far. Been my 8th carb I've setup the past few yrs with different customers. The other carbs you mentioned are good also but lately its been quick fuel. doing a 400 ford with 4v heads deported epoxy runners and hyd roller and 9.8 to 1 comp going with a 750 cfm also. catch you later.

Demon's are very nice, as are the quickfuels, either in the 750 will work awesome, and i would stay away from the holley ta's, they work great when new, but go downhill quickly, and do not like to be rebuilt.

If you are going to drive it on the road every day I would not use a double pump carb. I'd get a Holley 650 vacuum 2nd. with a 2nd metering block and center hung float bowls. The street master is a single plane high rpm manifold and the 400 makes it's power down low, so I'd probably get rid of it for a good dual plane manifold. Just my opinion.

Deffinatly the action plus. You get a broader power band and better ports for atomization which means more power plus the fact it comes with a built in spacer you get a great intake that has the low end like a dual plane but when your really getting up there it acts like a single plane. great intake for the price.

action plus for your application!

get on quick fuel website and read on the annular 750. carbs. Like the barry grants also but kinda in a quickfuel mood lately. Very pleased either way. first of all get educated on carbs before you buy and the carbs purpose. I prefer the annular because of the low end that is gained. catch you later. building a 400 4v headed with epoxy ports and going with a 780 or 750 annular not sure on if vacume secondary. still got some thinking on which direction I go, but definelty 750 cfm. good luck.

well i broke down an just bought a holley 650dp. i loved the quickfuel but couldnt pony up the cash an get a weiand action + intake and put a locker in my rearend. but my next engine (460) i'm building i'm pony up the cash cause i got my drivetrain all done. i hope this all works out. they sadi that streetmaster intake was crap pretty much so i am gonna try this action + intake. everything i read on annular boosters was awesome. i almost bought a summit 750 but i didnt see too many good reviwes bout them. anyways any tips on tweekin the 650dp out or performance do dad's i can bolt on this 400 an help is greatly appreciated.

the summit 750 are basically the old 500cfm ford 2bbl's turned into a 4bbl, which were good carbs, just not a real barn burner.

quick fuel 780/750 vacume secondary?

was doing some reading on the vacume secondarys. On the vacume side of the carb the diaphram has a adjustment screw to help tune the secondary's. never ran a quick fuel vacume secondary but this little tuning device has caught my eye. think I will purchase this 780vac for my 400. tunable air bleeds are a plus and nice metering plates are standard on the quickfuel carbs. So for your situation a 780 and not using the secondarys means only 390cfm of air on the primary's. If needed depending on how quick the secondary kick in is your paticular driving habits. I like getting air to my engine to help get thing rolling at the beginning this is where you use a lot of fuel is getting the vehicle rolling. catch you later and just getting educated on carbs and some of the newer tuning options we need to know about.

On your 650dp their is a linkage between the two carbs that can be tuned to help out on the low end torque. Their is a factory linkage but you can order a custom linkage to with a all thread type device and this will help tune your butterfly timing. Most people are not aware of this but have ran these for years and just thought you might need to know. any questions drop a pm and will get back with you. I like messing with these type carb especially in 4wd applicaiton.
