Help Will not idle

I took a govnor carb. and distributor off of a 1973 ford f600 330 engine because it would not idle. I put a carb. and a distributor on that does not have the govnor on it and it still wont idle.

I put a new rebuilt distributor pulgs wires cap button points. I rebuilt the carb.on it . It runs fine on the road . Just when you stop it wont idle. As long as you got the coke pulled out it is fine. I thank it is the carb houseing wore.

have you checked for vacuum leaks ? the carbs have different circuits and the idle circuit could be bad but i would lean towards the vacuum leaks , intake , if brake boosters are leaking that would make a idle problem !!

X2 on the manifold vacuum leak. Check also that the float level is not too high.

is your reman distributor for an industrial engine, or did you order it for an automotive application to avoid the governor? The automotive distributor will fit your engine, but will wear out quickly, as the shaft is smaller and offers no support at the drive gear. I doubt it would cause your current problem, but later it would. Otherwise, vacuum leak.

The PCV or the plastic plate that its hose attatches to between the carb and manifold comes to mind.

Also dont forget, Holleys are notorious for blowing power valves that will screw things
all up. Hows it run if you take idle screws out or screwed all the way in. If so thats
idle circut dirty because you say its better with the choke out???

Using the term PCV is confusing, because it refers to Positive Crankcase Ventilation.

The correct term is carburetor spacer plate, and AFAIK, none were plastic.

Some were aluminum, some were a phonetic material, some were bakelite, some were cast iron.

When the EGR valve is present (1973 and later), the factory installed aluminum EGR/carb spacer plates are notorious for burning out and/or melting due to the heat.

The service part replacement (parts sold in the parts dept) EGR/carb spacer plates are cast iron.
