6.0 wont run

OK, first off I am new here and love the forum. I desperately need some help. A while back my 03 super duty with the 6.0 starting running funny, surging, rough idle when cold. Check engine light came on I pulled the code P2285. OK so now I know the ICP sensor is bad. Since I didnt have the money or time to get it fixed right away I let it go and only drove the truck when neccasary. So I finally get the money for the parts and go to the dealer on friday to pick up the parts. (new icp sensor and harness section) Spent about 3 hrs last night putting the parts on. Got done and started the truck, sounded good. Test drove it and noticed a little hesitation when I got back it started running rough like it had a bad miss. Decided to just go home and mess with it more today. Well I went to leave and could barely get the truck to move, mash the pedal to the floor and it doesnt want to spool up or go anywhere. After reading some last night figured it might be the EGR, tried disconnecting that and it seemed to run a little better but alas no, still no go. So I pulled the EGR and cleaned it real well, still no better. Now it wont even start. it tries but wont quite catch. I am at a loss anyone have any ideas before I have to take it to the dealer??????????????????????????

You should go to the 6.0 in the diesel area of FTE. Look through the tech folder.

If you have an 03 icp behind turbo, while you were there you allmost had to unplug FICM and move it, if so are the connections pushed all the way in and make a click, check all plugs and also ipr plug

Look at.........

Got a scan tool? Look at IPR% and ICP pressure cranking to start with. You need to see about 15% area for IPR ideally, maybe a touch higher, and usually around 600-700 psi for ICP pressure. You wouldnt be the first to wire your ICP wrong.

I will have to see if I can get a scan tool. I was very careful to match the wire locations before splicing, believe me I thought about that. Before I got the ICP code the truck ran fine, even after the code appeared it continued to run ok just surge once in a while.
Anyone have any other ideas, the thought of paying thousands to the dealer scares the hell out of me.

Ficm

Did you unplug the ficm to get in there? If so, take the ficm out. Push EVERY pin into each harness and plug them back into the ficm until they click. Then try to start it.

OK, so I got home from work this morning had my coffee, read the forum etc. I went out to see what the truck would do. Turned the key on waited for the glowplug light to go out and cranked her over. Guess what, she fired up and ran nice and smooth??? So I let her warm up about 5 mins and then test drove her, she still runs with a little "miss" to it but will spool up and blow some black smoke under hard acceleration. Not sure where to look now..LOL could it still possibly be the EGR. The last time it was replaced was under warranty, so maybe 40k+ miles ago. The truck isnt due for it but should i change the oil and filter and fuel filters?

You might look into cleaning the turbo. Vanes may be sticking.(just a guess) But like parts, you should check with a scan tool first.
