Question Ratteling Noise in Engine Compartment

I have a 2002 F-150 extended cab XLT and its step side. now my problem with my truck is and had been annoying the hell out of me and makes me very very upset. when i start up my truck it turns on and everything but when it hits 1 TO 1.2 RPM'S it makes this little "ratteling" noise. now when it goes above 1.2 RPM'S like when i'm normally driving it goes away. it also goes away when it goes below 1 RPM. now when i cruise the truck the RMP meter usually hits about 1.2 RPM'S and sure enough the rattleing noise is back. i've taking it to the dealership and they said they have taken out rocks from the converter shield. how do rocks get there? its a brand new truck? but my real concern is, is it really rocks that are the problem or is it something elese? PLEASE PLEASE reply with some help or feedback. thanks so much.

I think most of the rattling is the heat shield on the converter. These can be a pain since someone has to stay inside the truck and rev it to the point it starts rattling while someone underneath tries to isolate the sound.

Rocks? I doubt it at this point. But it sounds good to tell someone with a new truck. The problem may go away after a while.

Use welding gloves for this if you decide to crawl underneath.

With the truck cold, crawl underneath and hit the exhaust pipes with your hand and see if you can hear the rattle. Little rocks do get into the catalytic convertor sheilds and cause a buzz/rattle.
If that's not the problem I would take it back to the dealer and have them look again.
