Are antique trucks exempt from smog insp in cal..
Someone told me rides over 25 yrs old are exempt from smog inspections in Cal.
Any body have any insite into this?. I'm trying to move there "family reasons" and don't want to get rid of my truck. It's 25 yrs old i have antique plates on it But i riped the brains out and went to dsII ignition sys. It runs way better now than it did when i got it.

Even if they did it's probably like here in Va. You can run antique plates, but you better being doing something "antiquey" when you are driving it or they will pull you over. I know of two guys where I work that thought they would be smart and run antique tags and use the vehicle for regular use and got pulled over.

I'm glad to see VA is finally cracking down on that one. It used to bug me when I lived there, now to combat that sleazy independant dealer issue...

CA smog tests 1976 and later vehicles. All the factory installed emission parts that came with the vehicle have to be installed and in working order.
There is no waiver if the parts are obsolete...it's fix it or park it.
New to CA residents have 30 days to register their vehicles (dunno if this applies to active military).
If they don't register it within this time frame, a fine is imposed that escalates monthly!
CA requires that all trucks must have (expensive to register) Commercial Plates. The only way to get around this BS, is to install a permanent camper shell.
If you have CA personalized or DP (handicap) plates, they automatically become Commercial plates if installed on a truck.

THANKS FOR THE INPUT
I GUESS THIS TRUCK WILL STAY HERE IN ARKANSAS IF I MOVE TO CA.
Nothing smog related is left on the truck
If i put a 74 or older body on it would it be exempt from smog in Ca ?.
Do they go by body year vin or do they go by motor year vin to determen what gets smoged ?.

And, CA frowns on frame/body swaps. If the polizei or DMV find a different frame VIN than the vehicle is registered by, you're SOL!
Now...you have to prove that the truck wasn't stolen.

CA emissions laws suck, but the air is better
Yes....
There was a time - mid-1970s as I recall - when Los Angeles had the nation's
worst air pollution, I remember this because Denver, CO (where I live) had
the honor of holding the #2 spot.
Through whatever actions were taken over the years in both cities, the air is
now significantly better.
If you ever get to visit a large city in a foreign country where there are NO
pollution controls on any of the cars or factories (Moscow, Bejing, etc.) you
will have a new appreciation for what our government here does to help
protect the environment.
