I just wanted to say that coming back from vacation this past weekend into IL there was a torrential down pour where I could not see 5 feet in front of me. Vehicle driving with hazards on and pulled over on the side of the road. My family had all of our luggage, Christmas gifts etc int he back of the truck and not a drop of rain entered the bed. I was leery of a folding cover at first but I am glad I got it. An outstanding product and I highly recommend it. It should be noted that I am not affiliated with Fold-a-Cover in any way other than buying their product. Just FYI if you are looking at folding covers

 

Great to hear! The Fold-a-Cover G4 Elite was on my short list but I opted for the DiamondBack. When I was looking for these covers, I was really concerned about water in the back. I just put the DiamondBack on the truck today. Still need to finish the install. Hope it is as watertight as your Elite is!

 

I have the Extang hard trifold cover and I am happy with the way it seals and keeps water out as well. the problem I have noticed is that mist/water gets in between the tailgate and box sides at the back of the box. Anyone else notice this?

 

Yep, there is a nice gap between the gate and the bed walls. Dust will also enter through said gap. I put a tail gate seal on my F150 that works wonders. It's an Extang product, and I believe it was $28. It adheres with double sided 3M tape to the bed walls and seals nicely once the gate is closed against it. It comes in a large roll and you must cut to fit. Takes all of 10 minutes.

 

That is good to know... I will look into it. I also noticed this morning that snow will blow in there as well.

 

The only thing I've noticed, and it's likely my fault at installation, is that the bottom seal has rolled downward slightly leaving a bit of the 3M tape exposed. Looking at it now, I would have moved the seal down just a touch to avoid this. Still works though.

Also, since the seal fills said gap, the gate is a little harder to close now. It takes a little effort/pressure on the gate to latch it, whereas before you could gently close and latch the gate. Nothing major, just an observation.

 

Could you post a pic of your installation showing what you would do differently?

 

Sure, if we can ever get some sun today. I'm not sure how my F150 bed lip will relate to your F350 though, but I'll gladly snap a few shots at lunch if it clears up.

So this is where the seal has "rolled" downward a little. You can see where the seal makes contact with the gate (thanks to my dirty truck). I'm pretty sure that the contour of the tail gate has caused this. The very lower portion of the gate is rolled downward as you get to the lower edge. It is my thought that if I had mounted the seal just a touch higher on the lower bed wall that I could have prevented this from happening. That's just theory though as I have no way of proving it at this point in the game.

I was afraid as all can be of getting a folding cover because of rain etc. After this last trip my worries are gone. I have a tailgate seal that I have not even put on yet. I'm extremely happy with it.

 

I'm with you on the initial thoughts Sgt93. I too was leary of the roll up cover being somewhat watertight. Very few, if any, companies out there guarantee a waterproof application. My roll up cover has exceeded my expectations in that regard. Snow, blowing rain, heavy dust and we're still without any serious intrusion.
Thanks for letting us hijack your thread. I just happened to be over here lurking and drooling over your SD's. Can't justify a diesel in my life right now, but I sure do covet them immensely.

Do you have a pic of how the Fold-a-Cover G4 follows the bed lines when fully installed on the SuperDuty? (anyone)

 

Sorry, not trying to hijack, but does anyone have any idea of what the part number or official name is of those rubber bumpers or isolators mounted to the bed right above the striker pins? I believe they're supposed to help keep the tailgate from rattling.

I've lost both of mine and would like to get replacements. These pictures reminded me.
