Adding oil to the fuel

This weekend I talked to an expert on diseals. Work on a lot of semis. He said with the new low sulfur fuels the injectors will wear out. In his 2005 Chevy truck he adds a qt of automatic transmission fluid or Marvel Mystery oil to each 40 gallon fill up. He says that this quiets down the injectors and increse their life. He says he has 80k on the original injectors. He does say that the truck will smoke a bit. I have a 2010 F250 6.4 and I use Diseal Kleen in the silver container. Does anyone add oil to the fuel and does this help the injectors? Does the Diseal Kleen help? How long do injectors last on this model? I live in Southern California and I don't really want my truck to smoke. Thanks

There were several threads where members used 2 cycle oil added to diesel fuel which quieted their injectors down considerably.

I have run Stanadyne (or Diesel Kleen if I am out of Stanadyne) in every tank of my personal truck since new.

My brother has an '04 with 140k on the clock, Stanadyne or Diesel Kleen in every tank, with all original injectors.

Just keep using the Diesel Kleen, that is a far more beneficial product than just dumping oil in the fuel.

I add anything that I have handy. Atf, 2stroke, oil, diesel klein, stanadyne when I can find it. But 7.3s can burn stuff a lot more junk than the newer trucks.

Most of the people who have added oil were to models that were built prior to the ultra low sulfur engines. Your engine is designed to run on the low sulfur so I don't know if you would see any noticeable results. I have a 2004 and have put 2 cycle oil in my fuel as it is designed to burn when mixed with fuel. It di quiet my engine some but I saw no other noticeable difference.

I would not do that in the 6.4. Adding diesel kleen or the ford approved additives is ok. the emissions components and sensors may give you problems with putting other oils in the fuel system.

Here is an interesting study from 2007, showing the effects of lubricity on ULSD of various additives, including motor oil, Marvels Mystery Oil, Diesel Kleen and 2 stroke oil.

http://rivrdog.typepad.com/files/cop...-version-3.pdf

Notice some additives, including Marvel Mystery Oil, actually decrease fuel lubricity.

That is a VERY interesting study. I have always used 16 oz. of Stanadyne or 32 oz. of Diesel Kleen per tank in my personal trucks (roughly 100 to 1), mostly to improve cetane significantly.

I am glad that I have always overdosed the fuel, as the lubricity improvemements are someone dismal using the lower dose.

I have never seen the Opti-Lube stuff, but I am going to actively search it out when my current supply of Stanadyne and Power Service are exhausted.

Looks to me the Opti Lube is the best deal for decent protection. Does anybody have a recommendation of where to purchase?

Interesting.. anyone note that the best performing product was also the only product sent from the manufacture of the product and it was still experimental?

Never mind, I just ordered a gallon from the link you provided. Less than a half ounce for every 10 gallons. Guess I'll have to start carrying a shot glass in my truck!
