I'm getting a '73 F100 (F102) that has 22,090 original miles, what do I do with it?
It's a white Custom with blue interior, longbed, 360/C6, 2wd, power brakes, power steering, front disc brakes, dealer installed in dash air, bumper guards, swing away mirrors. The inside of this truck looks brand new, the seat sits brand new, the rubber floor mat looks brand new.
It was a farm truck, but it doesn't look abused, one owner, he paid cash for it when he bought it. It comes with the original paper tag, title, inspection sticker receipt, window sticker, owners manual, build sheet, purchase receipt.
The carb has been rebuilt, the plug wires, cap and rotor have been replaced, as well as the battery and the exhaust from the cab back. Newer tires (the spare is original, but no good) it has another spare mount and spare tire on the driver's side front edge of the bed. The paint is original, but dull and has scuffs and scratches. None of the fenderwells are rusted out, nor is the hood, cab mounts, fender aprons, rockers, floors or cab corners, bottom of the bed fenders. The only rust is where a roof of the barn or carport caved in and filled the front passenger corner of the bed with leaves and it rusted out, the hole is maybe 16x12. Also on that side, the bottom of the door, the cab corner, and the lower bed side in front of the wheel well have rubbed up against something. It can all be pulled as it's not rusted out, the bed appears to have had the rub pounded out from behind, but not repaired in any other way other than to have some white paint brushed on it.
In my opinion, even if the bed wasn't rusted and those rubs in the body there, the paint isn't salvageable even with touch ups, it really needs a repaint, but it could be a scuff and shoot.
I think it's a restoration candidate, but I wonder what it would be worth restored? (what someone will pay for it, I know) I see this '74 on Hemmings Hemmings Motor News: Ford F100 Classified Listings but that just seems insane, $19k. (and yes, I know you can never get out of them what you have in them, unless maybe you're Foose..)
There's a '76 XLT for $12k, which seems on the high end of reasonable (to me). If not a restoration, it'd be a nice start for a Custom truck as it's so rust free other than the bed floor. I'll post some pics tomorrow. I guess I'm kinda wondering what it's worth as it sits. It seems better to pass it on to someone who would treat it right since it's only 22,090 miles old.

The guy told me it was a Camper Special, now all the Camper Specials I've seen, say Camper Special. The code reads F102 (I think 4800), once it gets up to a higher code, does that make it a Camper Special? I think the codes go from F101 to F108 with the weights going up accordingly, at some point is that when it happens?

I was at the FE nationals with my little brother, I had left my 65 Galaxie at home and came in my 03 Lightning. Mst of the time I hung out with Ron. It was a rare sighting of Shoe!

I never heard of a F100, which when I saw it, I told the guy who has it, I don't think it's one, and usually thay're badged for it, this truck is original.

You're truck also has dealer installed A/C
Also, confirmed in Ford Factory Manual only F250-F350 from 1973 could be had with the Camper Special option.

So I've been doing a little to the truck as time has gone by....
I checked the front and rear brakes, rear shoes were OEM and the drums had never been off. The front pads appear to have been changed. It needs a new master cylinder and I replaced the front soft lines and am working on the rear.
Since it didn't come with factory power brakes, I decided to go get a bracket and booster and swap it over. Cleaned up the bracket and booster I got from LKQ and painted them and installed. Just waiting on the master cylinder now.
The sending unit wasn't working and a buddy had a parts truck with one that did so I swapped tanks as his was clean and mine had a dent in the bottom. Need to order the filler neck to tank hoses from LMC and install them. Had to cut the spare mount out as the captured nut part broke. Probably grab a modern mount with a cable to put back in there.
I also got new battery cables as the old ones were pretty scary looking. When I order the hoses from LMC I'll likely get the bed floor repair patch as well.

I agree with privateer. I'd go for restoration all the way. That truck is a beaut. Also just to be clear only the F350 camper and trailer specials had the 140" wheel base. All other longbed trucks from 1973-1996 had 133" wheel bases. And 1979 was the last year for the 140" wheel base F350.
