"I" wire on reg.

Sorry i posted this in someone else's thread by mistake. Fired up my 53 today with 289, rewire almost done. It has a IASF transitor reg. Was not using the "I" terminal and was reading only 12 volts at batt., less with load. Hooked "I" wire of reg to ignition on key switch now i'm getting 14.6. Is this okay? I thought you didn't need to use the "I" wire, Then someone told me it was an exciter wire?

Top one is your IASF regulator. The battery should be running at around 14.4v while the engine is running. That tells you that the alternator is working. Others may chime in with a better explanation.

Thanks Havi, Looks like thats how i have it and i have the correct voltage so all is good. Curious my 66 T-Bird does not use that "I" terminal and it charges fine. It' original wiring on that car.
