pics out of focus so: ok for 25yr old plugs. MPG is dependent on so many variables: mechanical condition of engine, state of tune, carb cleanliness and adjustment, maintenance, gear ratios, tire size etc....mostly on how the vehicle is driven/maintained. The damn corn-alcohol we are forced to buy in gas hurts MPG too, by 3 mpg more/less. These engines are not MPG engines and have never had that reputation. If you are getting 17mpg or better about normal I'd say.

If they are white, as they look in the photo, then I would say you are running lean. They should be a light, sandy beige color. I would adjust the mixture.

Do you have a macro feature on your camera? The button or setting is usually a flower icon. If you use that, it lets you focus clearly on close up objects.
With the pic out of focus, its really difficult to tell.

Although, as for tuning your carb for mpg, you want the plugs to be around 80% - 90% white, with an area of beige/tan around the tip. If they're fully white, it's too lean.

Will try the macro next time didn't know about it. Thanks for the advice AB
The plugs are mostly white with a little tan on the tips. I thought the pic showed that.
So if the plugs burn white with a little tan/beige on the tips the carb should be set about rite "good fuel burn". rite?

From what I've heard, that's about right. Today's fuels burn a lot cleaner, so there'll be less tan for a nice healthy fuel burn.

plugs

Parr4 those plugs came with the truck I have about 500 mi on them. Off topic I lived in jonestown TX. for 24 years lots of good people there nice lake too. Taxed me out of there.
It had a valve cover leak when i got the truck thats why some are greasy
I Went back with ngk wr5 v powers hope they work good.
New good wires, brass terminal cap and rotor $$, Trying for better mpg.
Planning to rebuild front end bushings then a alignment, check for dragging brakes and anything that will impede Mpg
thanks for the input.
