Use a digital volt meter and measure what the voltage is at the battery with the engine off. It should be 12.6 to 12.9 volts DC. Start the engine. The voltage should jump up to 13.6 volts or better. The alternator is designed to produce enough to keep the voltage at this level with all of the electrical on.
