thanks alot to the guys that are encouraging me. some of this post makes me scared out of my wits to even look at a car now. and it was just a small question about the loan. i never intended on getting a huge loan. i just was wondering if it was any way possible to pay 2500 cash and pay the other 500 with payments but im waiting to have all cash. i pulled up an extra grand this past week from work so now im at 3,000. after this post to be honost my enthusiasum for the f100 has gone down. dont get me wrong its my dream car but after the 20th post of guys jealous that they didnt have the option of getting one like me, kinda makes me want a newer small ranger. i never thought it would even cross my mind of getting something else besides a f100 but after this im not sure. ill keep my eyes open and keep you guys posted. it just bugs me that some of you guys look at me like im some immature 8 year olld who has no clue whats goin on. i came to the forum for help and input not guys raggin on me about everything. so i appreciate all the guys that are stickin up for me. you guys are the best an actually have a heart. and to all the cranky old guys just remember when you were my age and had the desire of gettin one of these beauty's. thanks guys

Posting on a forum for advice leaves you open to encouragement and some "raggin". Read closely through each post and I am sure there is something that can be taken away from each. Heck, the fact that a few posts have you reconsidering your decision is good because you want to be a sure as possible before you purchase. Good luck.

I drove a 65 f-250 all through high school and college 4 hours from home.I would not be afraid of an older truck since you sound like you are capable of keeping it on the road.AND it could be a good learning experience as well.BUT when I had mine gas was less than 1.00per gallon.but I was also making 4.25 per hr....When mine is done I am going to drive it everywhere!BUT I am a freak!

The payments were $123.00 a month, but my take home from my $500.00 monthly salary was $323.68 a month.
It was a stretch making those monthly payments, even though I lived with my parents (thru 1967). Then there was the monthly insurance payment of $35.00, 10 bucks higher because the truck was financed.
IMO, a 16 year old should not take on a financial burden, because if something occurs, your credit will be ruined and it will take years to get it straightened out.

Well, did you get it? Since you said you would not be getting a loan for it I was going to look at it again and let you know what I thought. But it is not listed anymore. I have always wanted an old Ford. My grandpa had a 67 F100, my other grandpa had a 74 F100. And we had a 64 F600 grain truck on the farm. I fell in love with the 64 body lines. As everyone told you the $6000 was way too high. I think the truck was very good looking and if it was rust free then I would definitely be interested at $3000. Good luck finding your dream. I now have 2, a 63 F250 and a 66 F100.

mark shoot my some pics of your trucks. would love to take a look. forget what i said about the ranger. i want my f100. so that truck was sold for 5,000. he was gonna sell it to me for 3,000 but you guys said it was not a good deal so i passed.
If i found a 66 with a good running engine and no rust. how hard/expensive would it be to make it look nice and a good daily driver? like a paint job and minor interior work.
do you guys think it would be a better opion to find a cheap one running good and no rust but not in best shape? (paint, intrerior wise) and paint her up? how hard would this be a price wise.

Like the others have said, take your time and sooner or later the right one will come along. As for wheather or not a 16 year old kid should take on the responsibility, you gotta start sometime and the longer your sheltered, coddled, whatever you wanna call it, the longer and harder it will be for you to learn the ropes. Heck, I bought my first car at 16, well half of it anyway, mom and dad split it with me. I wrecked it about three or 4 months later so the next one was on me. Bought my first brand new vehicle, a '80 Ford F150 4x4 at age 19, along with a '67 Mustang Fastback. All on a 3 buck an hour job at the hospital washing dishes and mowing yards. For all you fuddy duddys out there that think its too much of a responsibility, I guess thats why some kids run away from home. JMO. Give er hell kid.!!!

Came into this thread late but here's my opinion, not that it matters.
Being mature and grown up means making your own decisions. Do not blame anyone here for you not buying the truck. It was your decision and your decision only! Now with that being said
Buy what you want, spend what you need to get it roadworthy. If you get into debt, dig your way out. Don't accrue any more debt. Once you have the truck, do what it takes to get it to your liking.
One step at a time and you'll be fine. The truck may be parked at times because you can't afford gas but you'll have a truck.
After you get the truck, ask questions. Many here will be more than happy to answer questions it will save you money on parts and labor.
Remember being grown up and mature enough, means dealing with the consequences.

First thing it needs is new tires. Coker and arizona heat is not a good combination on a 4000 pound truck.
Second thing is about 2+ grand will be needed in fixing everything that may be screwed up in it. Motor was rebuilt before he bought it. Yea in 1985.
It is not a deal, it is a common abandoned project from someone who has bitten of more then they can chew and posting it just before Barrett Jackson to see what sucker may bite.
Common abandonment terms for craiglist. "was gonna" " wires incomplete" ect. Expect to invest a pile in this pile.
It is a 500 to 1000 buck parts truck.

Since everyone else has chimmed in I need to give my take on the truck. I'm 50 years old but that old truck keeps me dreaming like a 16 year old every night just thinking about the next project I want to complete and my 12 year old son fully expects that truck to be his first ride.
I've made the best buys on vehicles in my life when I didn't have to buy right away and was able to wait for the right car at the right price waiting for the right situation. Since I've been 15 years old two of the great motivators in my life have been perfume and motor oil and things haven't changed much and I hope they never do.
There are some things that no one can tell any of us, we just have to live through them to learn and debt is one of those, us older guys have lived through the joys and great misery of loans so we tend to have strong opinions, you always need to do what's best for you, your family and your situation. Sounds like you have a dream that won't go away, I can't wait to see the truck you end up buying.
