Best New Year wishes to the Arizona FTE'rs! I may begin to drop in here more often to get to know you guys better.
For Thanksgiving we went over to Marana to my sister's, and Marge discovered another potential retirement location. I'd rather steer her up into your mountains, and she liked Flagstaff when we were there a couple of years ago, but I'd prefer someplace more out-of-the-way.
We shall see.......

When I say "lived there", I mean "kept an apartment there". I was a rep for an avionics company over here to the Learjet completion center down at the airport, and the company found it was cheaper to rent a condo than to spend all the money on hotel rooms. I'd come in on Monday and fly out on Fridays. It was easy back then, as Hughes Air West ran non-stops from Tucson to Burbank and back, without everything having to go through PHX.
This trip, we hung around up on Tangerine and Thornydale, but did run out to Oro Valley a couple of times shopping. That area sure has changed! We took my wife sightseeing out West Speedway to see saguaros, up to Sabino Canyon, and walked around the UofA campus for a while. And, of course I HAD to take her out to see Tucson's fabulous Miracle Mile! I had always remembered that as quite a joke, and it didn't fail to produce the desired effect this time!
Didn't go north on Oracle Road, but I suspect it's considerably different from my years past, when it was a two-lane leading to a wider spot in the road, then off to a little town with a power plant (or maybe a mine??) with seemingly endless rail cars, that's on the back side of the Catalinas. I'll bet it's cleaner there today!

Then again, my idea of a miracle mile would include abuncha tool and hardware stores, several coffee shops (not Starbucks), Italian and Jewish delicatessens, good pizza joint, Whataburger, a good old-fashioned drinking bar, coupla used book stores, a Ford dealer or three, bowling alley, golf course, drive-up ATM large enough and tall enough for an F-350 4x4 without having to fold in the mirrors and lean waaay over the door....

Thanks Bill. No Vici starts on Jan 10. Her school district has a three week Christmas break. She will have this week to get into her classroom & get ready to start. Her Principal said she would meet with her this week to give her keys etc. I'm hoping to get back to volunteering in the school. I really missed that in Nevada. I cleared all the background checks in Nevada etc., then they would not use me at all. I have an Arizona fingerprint card, I have never had a problem volunteering in Arizona schools.
