You probably need a new transmission.

Im not sure what to think of the replies ahead yes you may need a rebuild on the trans but maybe not.
Id like to know the condition of the fluid, does it have fluid, has it ever been serviced?
Automatic transmissions seem to be forgotten ounce the vehichles leave the dealer pking lot they even started calling fluid lifetime fluid and removing dipsticks.
I guess the good help above falls into this just drive it till it quits n replace category. Probly the fast food instant gratification everyone wants.
Dealer mechanics are often like this. You need a need trans because your solenoids bad. Guess what the new transmission comes with a new solenoid installed. So was the solenoid bad or the transmission
Ive seen clean fluid and fresh filter transform transmissions that have been neglected.
Im kinda new to this trucks and theyre transmission. Ill do some research and see what i find so i can maybe be of more help.

Broken shafts, blown clutches, stripped splines are a few things that come to mind.
That would be a bad assumption.
Maybe you can't see the signature at the bottom of my posts, it says Former Ford Automatic Transmission Engineer. I no longer work on them, and I've never sold them.
