2001 Expedtion, 5.4 transmission problem
Okay, I first want to say that I have been very happy with this vehicle. I just would like some insight on this problem. The Expedition is typically an in town driver, this week we decided to take it for a 250 mile trip for the extra space. About 200 miles into the trip I put it in reverse and it seemed a little sluggish. I put it in drive and tried to accelerate and it revved and engaged. As I was driving to my uncle's house I was going about 45 mph and the transmission felt like it was slipping. The tach would suddenly jump about and then drop back down as if it were going into overdrive then back out. I took it to my uncles mechanic who checked the code and said it was the 1st to 2nd solenoid sticking. He changed the fluid and got that working. I drove it around a few miles while there and started back home. Seemed fine at 70 mph, going along good. I got off the expressway to eat and when I slowed down it felt like the truck was trying to completely stop me. I put it in drive2 and got into the parking lot. when I would put it into drive, it would not move at all. I ended up driving it home in drive2 at about 35 mph on secondary roads for the whole 200 miles.
Any ideas what it may be and did I cause further damage by driving that far in drive2?

Okay so working on my brothers 01 5.4 with my Snap On Solus Edge hooked up, it says 2nd gear solenoid off UNLESS I put it in first gear to start off, then it behaves normally until I slow down to where it want's first again, then it says second solenoid is off. The shifter linkage is janky. Is it possible that the sensor that tells the truck what gear it's in is confused?
