My son just purchased a 2002 explorer stx with a 5 speed standard. I've contacted all the local parts stores and the ford dealership and no luck finding the correct clutch assembly to replace it with. Ford no longer carrys it(no listing, even individual parts) Any HELP will be apprieciated. Thanks Scott

Got the clutch pulled, it's a 10 inch disc,1-1/8 inch shaft,26 spline that bolts to a duel mass flywheel. The LUK clutch number is 07-169, and another clutch kit number is MU721231DK. No luck with anything around here. Any HELP would be welcome. How hard is it to swap a ranger tranny and transfer?

 

1. Call clutchmasters
2. Ship (overnight) your entire clutch assembly to them
3. in 24 hours it will be on it's way back to you

or find a clutch rebuilder in your area- they should provide a 24 hr turn around as well

 

After alot of no I don't have a 26 spline clutch kit, I called southland clutch they made a solid flywheel matched a disc and presure plate, tested it in a 02 and now sells it to the public. southlandclutch.com - San Diego Clutches, Clutch Kits, Performance Clutch Solutions Very helpful and knowageable people. Seams Ford experimented with about 1000 explorers and use this tranny and duel mass flywheel then dropped the idea. Thanks Everyone Scott

My wife has 1 of these 1000 just went and got a clutch at auto parts and of course it's wrong. I work for ford and they are obsolete. Going to call south land Monday

I wouldn't get that one just because they don't even give a spline count. There are tons of clutches listed for 23 splines, but none for 26 splines.
