In its final year of production the Lightning made 380hp and 450lb/ft of torque and could run 0-60 in about 5.1 seconds. The new 5.0L makes 360hp and 380lb/ft of torque and in regular cab 2WD form is still a little heavier than the old Ford Lightnings. But on a side note the 5.0L is indeed very powerful, I test drove one about two weeks ago and it blew my mind. Several websites such as Pickuptrucks.com have tested the 5.0L. Pickuptrucks.com in particular recorded a 7.2 or 7.1 second 0-60 in a crew cab 4WD 5.0L F-150, so I would suspect a much lighter 2WD regular cab could most likely run a decent race with a Lightning.

Dont remember the exact figures but when looking at the next model up STX. I wanted make sure the truck had 3.55 gears, trailer brake, trailer hitch..STX was still more around $2000-3000 more just did not need that in this truck. Truck will be a mule for calibrations and a daily driver.

I priced an STX on the Ford website and it was actually more than the comparably equipped XLT, so who knows.

Put a small SC on it and it would give the Lightning a good run. My 2000 Lightning ran 13.07 (in 2000) with just a chip & filter. Most stock Lightnings were running high 13's after break-in.

Just the combo I'd like, in an XLT, please(pretty please???) with very few options. Comfortable, good ride, economical, and, uhhhhh, oh yeah! FASTER than ANY Ford pickup I've driven in some time. (hey, I lead a sheltered life, OK? ;-)

The other factor is the lightnings tourque curve was pretty flat with the blower...

I'd be shocked if a 2011 stock 5.0L could keep up. Can't see it. The newer chassis are too heavy.

Have to remember too, the lightning was no run of the mill work truck..it was something special, purpose built to go fast. Not exactly an apples-to-apples comparison. Having a run-of-the-mill work truck capable of running a 13-14(?) second quarter mile right off the lot will make for a pretty fun commute!

Sorry, no. The 6.2L is only available in the Lariat and above trim levels, and then only in the SuperCrew, except for the Raptor, which can be had with either the SuperCab or SuperCrew. Ford wants to limit availability of the 6.2 in order to not lower the fuel economy average too much, as the 6.2 gets only about 12city/17hwy mpg, the lowest of all available engines this year in the F150.

Mike, how does the truck handle? I realize it is new but do you feel the need for any adjustments, say body roll? Done any hard braking yet?
Looks like your the front runner on these 5.0 trucks so keep the info coming

Handles great. Brakes are great takes very little pedal to stop. We will put some more miles on it next week then put it on the dyno and get some stock base lines done. Truck has about 400 miles on it now. Fords done a great job with this truck
