07 F150 hard to fill with gas

I've had this truck close to a year now and I'ts been a challenege to fill with gas from day one.

If I flip the filler nozzle upside down I can usually get it to fill full throttle, but what a pain in the ****.

Do you guys have a flipper, as in a metal flap valve on your gas filler nech holes?

Mine doesn't have one and I wonder if it's supposed to have one and maybe it's fallen down the filler neck partially blocking the gas inlet to the tank??

none of these trucks have them, and i believe all brands have stopped installing them. i noticed i didn't have one a while ago, checked my buddies trucks (2-06s,1-08) and they didn't either. then a while latter i noticed my wifes jeep was also missing the flap. i think they just got taken off of the build lists.

on a side note i've got no idea how to fix your fill problem. purhaps the fill line, or vent line, have been crimped or compromised, causing a problem when filling

Mine acts like this sometimes, too. Seems to do it when I have let the tank get really low. I suspect (on mine) that it has to do with displacing the air. If I start it off slower for a couple of gallons I can then let it go full tilt with no problems. I think Ford might have made the vent line too small?

never had a problem like that at all on my truck. My wife's Jeep liberty though is another story, It fills ok, but you CAN NOT let the nozzle kick off on its own or it spills gas all over the side of the vehicle. I am extremely **** about gas on a vehicle so I have had to run to the car wash right after filling a few times. My dad says gas on the paint wont hurt any thing, I think it will. Anyway, you gotta guess how much it will take and put a little less in it. My truck fills ok though. Maybe once it has failed to kick off with the auto shutoff. but that is my biggest fear, is that the nozzle will fail to automatically shut off, I HATE that.

Mine just won't take the fuel very fast, my daughter's 05 mustang is the same way.

I told her to try the upside down gas nozzle trick, she did and she said it works, but what a pain. We had a chevy impala once that was like this and I just plain hated that car anyways but figured it was a GM thing, now I have 2 ford products that do this and it's no fun when you are filling at sub zero temps.

I had 05 Mustang and they had a recall as I recollect, but mine wasn't too hard to fill. Once in a while it would kick off but If I turned the nozzle sideways it would fill normal. I didn't get a recall notice and assumed part of the problem was the gas pump.

Same here man. My wife has an 05 liberty limited. I hate it when it happens. I don't ever let it kick off on its own. I kinda guess what it will take and put in about a gallon or two less. I have heard that about a few liberty's now.

We've owned a half a dozen 97 to 2007 F series half tons & expeditions over the years, and a couple superduties, but this is the first ford truck to give us trouble filling with gas.

The vapor pressure sensors that automatically shut off a pump can be very sensitive. Especially in states with very strict vapor recovery laws, like California. If the fuel flow from the pump is very fast, then the vapor overwhelms the sensor and triggers the pump off. The only way around it is to slow the pump down a lot. You can try to fool them a little by gradually ramping up to full speed, but at some point it will trigger the shut off.

for some reason you can "fool it" by pumping with the nozzle upside sown. With the filler nozzle upside down I can pump full lock on the nozzle & i don't get any gas puke when it clicks off full.

I do it all the time, I try filling with the nozzle in correctly and she clicks off right away, spin it around upside down (pain in the ****) and it will fill at full throttle until it clicks off full.
