Should I get it? 2003 F250

Im looking at a 2003 F250 5.4l just down the road from me. 4x4 XLT standard cab long bed. Nice straight struck no dents, no rust, like new interior. 135k miles asking 7500 for it. I was just looking for opinions on this truck. Main concern is the engine and the problems that it has had. Ive done alot of research and everyone says something diffrent.

A 5.4 is about as problem free as they get, especially when you compare it to a certain motor that was also available in 03

If its clean truck then go for it. To me the price seems a little high. Is it at a dealer or private sale

Private seller. I looked up the book price and its actually below book value.

I say go for it if it's as clean and straight as you say the 5.4 is a very reliable engine the older ones had a problem with the plugs spitting but the 03 should have the heads with added threads went form 4 to 8 for each plug. Price dosent seem bad to me for a clean one, change all the fluids use motorcraft oil filter fl-820s and enjoy. The engine he was referring to is the 6.0 powerstroke there was a bit of a learning curve on that motor which not everyone has figured out yet for some reason. Though if you have it can be a reliable powerful engine

I say go for it. The problems with the 5.4 spitting plugs are few and far between and are caused by improper installation of the plugs(cross threading, not torqued to the right specs, etc). With steel heads most mechanics and at home people just tighten it until it feels tight and you can't do that with aluminum heads.

Thanks for the info! I might be able to work out a bargain with trade + cash. Older gentlemen had no use for it still wants a truck to go to the dump type of deal.
