mpg depends on gears, tire size, driving style, how many miles on your ip and injectors ect. some guys here get 10, some get 20. you dont have OD so that hurts. your 4.10's are hurting you big time. 3.55's will help. a overdrive unit or e4od tranny would help a lot too. pick up maybe half a dozen mpg right there

i just got in from plowing.i fueled up while i was out.
11.70 MPG this trip.
iv got a good jag of wood on her i left on from working.
that made this old dually go pretty decent.
a couple ton on her back probably.
the roads were not hardly plowed,so i used 4wd,plus the winter fuel really sucks.
im at 14.73 average mpg @ 41 tanks right now.
winter is gunna bring her down some.
man does this old girl push some snow good (just got my plow. )
4:10 gearing and a C6 kinda hurts.not a whole lot you can do there.slapping in an overdrive trans or a gear venders would be the place to start like oreo says.
i dropped a good 1.5 mpg all easy when i went from SRW to dually.but boy can she haul a nice load.
if you slowed down, down there on flat Florida,to like 45 mph max,you would probably push 14/15 mpg all easy,if not more with your combo id bet.that's really way to slow to drive safely down there tho.you'd get run over.
its no wounder you claim poor city economy.you have to push the peddle to the floor just to get out safely in traffic down there.its so over populated.that kills ya right there, because these things are so heavy.

yeah, but the c6 costs way too much to drive today.
not only is it only a direct 1:1 final drive, but it has no locking torque converter.this means more heat and slipping.the E40D will walk all over the C6 in fuel economy.the best way to actually see it,is by swapping one into a truck that has the c6,so all else is the exact same.you'd be floored, and get all your $ back and then some in no time, just in fuel savings.if fuel was around $2 a gall,id still swap out to an E40d.with $3 plus,it's not practical to run a daily driver with it.
same goes for the old t18/19.whatever you like, stick shift go with the zf5.auto grab a good working diesel specific E40D.
its costing you more to keep a daily driver non overdrive unit today, than it would be to swap, hands down.
the problem is,the lump sum to do the swap.plus you need to figure if old Betsey is worth the $ invested in too,or would it just make more sense to finally upgrade to a latter model truck with an OD.sometimes its just best to finally let go and move to the next truck.but some people get attached lol.not me,all my mods are coming with me to the next one when this ones just too rusty.here's to hoping for 9 more solid years first.

What year did Ford start putting in the ed04 tranny's ? iam looking into getting a 4x4 idi hopefully in the near futer. What is the better rear end for towing the 4:10 or the 3:55 that what i am intrested in right now if the 3:55 is better for towing an fule economy i have a freind that will sell me one for $350 is that a good price ?
