zf reverse hard to find/ grind

just got a 92 with 7.3 and zf 5 spd and it sometimes is hard to find reverse and will pop out and grind, I seem to recall it was a poor design of the reverse gear? am I correct, been a while since I had one apart, I did search but didnt find what I wanted thanks

perhaps, but last time I rdered a reverse gear the syncho part was spaced away from the reverse gear, was told it was an upgraded reverse gear to help deal with reverse "popout" perhaps its a bad shift fork? now Ford says all those parts are obsolete, anyone have the latest in ZF numbers for repair parts for the shift collar, reverse gear and detents, thanks, barring this I will get another trans and tear down for good parts, i have a good 2wd low miler but mine is 4x4 so have to change a few things to make it work this trans only has 136 on it but who knows HOW it was used thanks

Have a look around here: ZF Friedrichshafen AG | Service Portfolio
They have parts lists, exploded views, etc. I bought OEM ZF rebuild parts from General Truck Parts in Chicago when I rebuilt my ZF. Mine was popping out of reverse too, and it ended up being worn thrust faces on the reverse gear and the flange on the mainshaft. That had worn the reverse synchro and allowed the dogs to wear severely on the synchro slider and reverse gear itself. I don't know if the problem was the reverse gear or poor lubrication. The shift fork and detents looked fine, although I replaced the forks just in case while it was apart.
