I don't even know what my oil pressure is at idle.
It sais 10 psi Robin, or am I looking at it wrong...

These guys are steering you in the right direction. We are starting to see a lot of LPOPs go bad above 200K. They are really easy to replace. Follow the link Payson gave you. Best place to get a replacement is here: Riffraff Diesel: Melling LPOP

Good luck! Hope this solves it.

Thanks Frank. I friggin missed that. I better put on my glasses. Glad I posted it so someone could straighten me out. Now we all know.

Maybe 5-7 PSI isn't so bad after all and is an early warning sign that LPOP may soon need an R&R.

And thank you Gene for this info. I am saving that for sure.

It's nice to see you around Gene.

Amazing what good info resulted from my post.

Thanks for all of your info, re reading all the posts everyone seems to be leaning to the LPOP. The service guy says in all his history he has never had an oil pump fix a low pressure problem. I'm going to have them check out the pressure regulator in the oil cooler, I guess thats the same thing that Kwikkordead mentioned if not let me know. Then I'm bringing the big guy home to replace the LPOP myself. Does the LPOP housing have any seals on it I should replace? I read something about a crank seal. I want to get everything I need before I start. Are there sponsors of this web site that I can order these things through? I would like to support them.

If you can think of anything else keep the info coming. I will post the out come on my end.

I do have to find the right fitting to screw into my sending unit port the MAC oil tester my buddy let me borrow has every fitting but the right one.

Thanks again this has been a wealth of information.

JJD,
You have come to the right place to get some informed and friendly help. The members and resources here are incredible.
I had the same issue with my 7.3 last summer and it turned out to be a bad bearing. I hope yours is something much simpler.
In addition to what others have already said I recommend that you:
1. change the oil and filter
2. while the filter is off check the check valve above the filter
3. while the drain plug is out use a light and a wire to check for any foreign objects in the bottom of your oil pan - You might find a piston cooling nozzle that has fallen out of position. Or if you are like me you might find pieces of destroyed bearings.

Keep us posted on your progress and good luck.

Good news oil pressure is up they found some debris holding open the pressure relief valve in the oil cooler. I'm going to cut open the oil filter with a wheel cutter and see if any major debris is in there, or if this was just a fluke thing. Thanks again for all your help ,I'm glad I found this web site.
