Hi Bill,
Just as an FYI, so you don't have to search through the OSI books, that part was previously known as A0T-2140-A, according to my original 1955 truck chassis parts catalog.

Actually...I did look, couldn't find the original part number in the O-S-I catalogs I have.

B9J-2140-A is what's listed in the 1948/56 truck parts catalog (final printing 1964).

The same master cylinder was used for both manual and power brakes. I brought up the factory power brake option because he asked about the ebay special.

Ah ha. I think I may get it now. While it's true that the master cyl is the same for many sizes/years,

It is probably a good modification to go to an integral booster/MC like the more modern cars and trucks use nowadays.

I am using the original separate MC and vacuum booster in my F600. I'd keep it that way if I wasn't going to change to a dual (hydroboosted) system.

Ford sold the two parts separately, not as a unit.

Is this what is being talked about? What is the large canister?

I still have this set up in my parts pile in case anyone needs it. It came off of a 51 or 52 F6.

That is a Bendix Hydrovac. It's a piston actuated brake booster and depending on its size it could work well for an F-6. My 50 F-5 has one of those. F-7 used a similar but larger Hydrovac. A detailed description of its operation and repair is in the Shop Manual.

The original equipment brake booster for 48-51 F-5/6 would have been a Midland Model C447. Same function but diaphragm actuated, looks like a modern power brake unit without the pushrod. That model is obsolete.

52-63 F-5/6 500/600 used a Midland Model C462C brake booster. These are still readily available and often used to replace the earlier units. A slightly different mounting bracket is the only difference. They are available from many medium/heavy duty truck shops and at NAPA. NAPA Part #NBB 518026.

I think I've mentioned them before, But Page Brake Page Brake | Locations has the master cylinders for a F6 truck. I picked up a new one for 52 F6 last year, was about $65 I think and is made in the USA
