I think normally you want to match up the pcm/ecm code. Here is a list: PCM Codes - 1994-1997 Power Stroke FAQ

I don't know enough to give advice on which one will work but maybe someone else can help.

You can put a 2000 manual computer in your 99...even if it's an early build 1999 if they are both federal emissions, 6-speed trucks.

Ok, my 99 is an early 99 and in regards to your statement "if they are both fed emissions," I thought all vehicles needed to be, if there is a possibility one or both are not, how would I know?? Thanks for your help.

By "fed emmissions" Cody is talking about 49 state emmision requirements excluding Cali trucks

Thanks, Robin.

If you have a DPC-401 box (AWA_ pcm code or something similar), you can replace it with a DPC-421 box (DAC_) with no problems. You can go the other way too, but on a manual truck, you will simply run into a check engine light due to a P0107 (BARO sensor) code.

These are 49-state PCM codes.

The WTR stands for weather, not water. The PCM has a slightly different program to enchance cold weather performance. Most likely an emmisions re-calibration.

Edit: What is the PCM Code? Just curious.

Edit: Never mind. Went to my list and it is a AWA5.

1999 - AWA5 - 9DTM AGD - DPC 401 - F81F AG - 7.3L F-250/350 DIESEL - MANUAL - SERV FIX* 49S COLD WTR -VIAF3G7

Thanks for your help, last year got stuck down south with a cracked fuel rail, for some reason they found an update and flashed the chip I had in. After putting 2 new heads on and getting out of Dodge, the truck ran like garbage and it hasn't been right since. Bought it in June of 98 and put a chip in Mar of 2000 and the truck was bullet proof, pull 14,000 fifth wheel like nothing. I went through the whole truck over the past year and can't get it to run right.....doesn't have the power or the economy it used to. Put a dp tuner in...smokes like I'm pulling 14K all the time and the engine clatter is almost un-bearable. Sent it back for a new download and it didn't make a difference.Only thing left is the ECM thinking when they flashed my chip it left some junk behind....only thing left I didn't mess with. Have a 2000 PS in the family thus the inquiry..swap it out and see what happens. Thanks again
