Hmm i dont know. I may have not posted it correctly. You can do a search for NSS and find it that way.

Got it. Thanks.
Now for quite possibly the stupidest question in the world...
In that diagram...what is the outer manual lever supposed to be connected to? In my truck, as purchased from the PO, it is not connected to anything. I find it hard to believe that lever was put there just for looks.

I assumed it needed to be hooked up to the shifter linkage somehow...and when it wasn't, I thought I had the culprit. But then the neutral-start functioned just fine, so I was puzzled.
I'm going to check the grounds back at the tail light housing, then I'm going to jump the NSS and see if the lights work.
BTW Vaokie, apologies!

I wonder if you moved that outer manual lever by hand, would the reverse lights come on.
Will the truck ONLY start in neutral or park like its supposed to? If not, i wonder if that switch was just moved to the park or neutral position and just left there since it isnt hooked up. That way it would start.

- Moving that lever by hand didn't seem to make the reverse lights come on. Could've been that I didn't hit the right spot with it, but I swept it very slowly through it's whole range of motion, and the wife didn't see the lights come on.
- It only starts in N or P. Put it in D, 2, or 1, and it won't start.

My daughter's 79 did same thing with the reverse lights not working searched and seached didn't think it was the NSS either because the truck only started in N and P then 3 months later it intermintly would start in any gear. I replaced with one off of ebay($36) and not only did it start right the reverse lights worked great. As to the lever I'll have to look when she gets home, off the top of me head I only remember the shifter lever and the kick down lever from the carb.

I just replaced NSS on a 78 F250 mounted on trans. Reverse lights werent working but neutral safety function worked fine. I checked everything I could think of before spending about $75 for NSS at Autozone. After swap reverse lights worked. Mine was soaked with oil which probably contributed to failure. The wires run up to the top of firewall to a connector behind the carb area.

I checked my illustration manual and couldnt see that that outer manual lever is supposed to connect to anything. I would like to know what it's for if anyone knows.
Anyway, like the above post said, my NSS was bad too, causing the reverse lights not to work but the neutral and park start function worked fine.
