...the more I read on octane the more I learn. The higher octane you need for your mods not only costs more but produces less energy-less mpg. All it does is allow you another hundred or more HP...

Very true, I wonder how much of a difference the octane really makes besides on my wallet...

The only reason we are getting ethanol shoved down our throats for the same price as regular 87 octane pure gas is because the farm lobby has been heard loud and clear in Washington, DC while John Q Public has no lobbyists working for him.

I filled up at the pump the other day and noticed that the premium gas now only has an octane raring of 91. I thought the mid grade was 91 and the premium was 93.

Depends on the brand/station. Most have 87, 89, and then the "high octane" ranges from 90 to 94 depending on who/where sold. I've seen a couple places that have two different 93 octanes... one being advertised as some kind of supergas or something.

The farm lobby is all about the big corporate "farmers". I have a hard time feeling empathy for a "farm" that operates in multiple states and encompasses 100s of millions of acres. I hereby rescind my tax dollars from all corporate subsidies. Oh wait, I forgot, it's my money but I don't GET a say on how it's spent. I'll shut up now.

WE truck owners/needers/wanters whether for business, pleasure, family or whatever are a lobby. All we need to do is lobby often and persistantly to all the names that want our votes every November. Like I stated above, load up your state senators and representatives, congress whoever into your e-mail address book and pound them about the "state of gasoline" regularly and ask for an answer to your concern. Most will write back, if they don't, there's no chance I'm pulling the lever for them. Their next trick is E15 and boat owners are well aware of the dangers of that looming in their tanks. So organizations like BoatUS and others are pounding away at the talking heads in Washington

That's what we auto and truck enthusiasts need to do also. Lobby, lobby, and lobby some more. We don't have the money that corporate lobbyists have, but we can vote and thare are far more of us than them. After an election cycle or two they'll get the hint. Also, we can join SEMA and watch every move that politicians make regarding laws that effect us.

Try 10-11mpg, 300-340 mile per tank. 04 f150 5.4l 17in wheels, 64000 miles 70% hwy 30% city. It sucks! ! ! ! ! ! ! I could have kept my 79 blazer with 40in tires and 10in lift. I got 10 mpg with that. Took my truck in for new camphazers and a coil 3 weeks ago, and they told me plan a plug change soon. they dont last 100k like everyone thinks. Carbon builds up on them and causes them to snap off when backing them out. I sure miss my 97 f150........ wish I never would have sold that for this thing i got now.
