Advice would be nice... :)
Well although I am reading on this forum about everyday this is my 1st post!!!
1st off, You guys are amazing and I love reading all the info that is on this site....
2nd, I have a 2006 F250 SD 6.0 all stock no mods/chips/tuners at all and I plan on keeping it that way... New EGR cooler/valve and Oil cooler along with 4 injectors within the last 10k miles... The last time she was in the shop I had the tech check the head gaskets and he said that he did a pressure test and the head gaskets are perfectly fine... The truck currently has 98k on her and I have had her since 88k... I do love my truck!
I was wondering if you guys would like to share what you guys do to keep these engines healthy... I change my oil every 5k and just had a coolent flush... My mec is the head tech at the local dealership and he comes HIGHLY recommended by all the ford guys around here. So I think Im covered as far as that goes...
I use this truck as a daily driver (hardly any towing, but when I tow on occasion its a 16' trailer that weights around 8k at most) and I HAVE to keep her on the road... The few times that she has been in the shop has about killed me!!!
Im the kind of guy that likes to do matenince my self and have no problem doing things myself...
I do use all Ford brand stuff (oil, and all filters)...
Is there any additives that I should be running? I know these engines are very picky... I just ran a dose of Chevron Techron through hoping to clear up a PO460 code...
Please just share what you guys know and what you think are good things to do...
FYI I am hoping to purchase a ScangaugeII this week... Please let me know your thoughts on that as well....
Thank you guys so much in advance!!!

Welcome to FTE Jason!
The scangauge2 is great - plus it's fairly cheap as things go nowadays.
You also should consider the coolant filter to try to keep stuff out
of the coolant which could plug up your new oil cooler.
Drive it wide open once a month (or more ) to keep the
carbon built up down - and test out the grin factor.

Isn't P0460 this code:

I would just clear it and see if it goes away.
Did you have your software updated / flashed recently?

Thanks for the input guys!
Yes I just had it flashed... and Im going to unplug the batteries this morning to see if that will clear it... I had filled up the truck several times while it was running and according to what I saw that could cause that code...
This is just regular Techron... When I was researching the PO460 code I found that being a synthetic additive it was ok for the 6.0 and people had found that it worked good to clean the fuel level sensor...
Keep the stuff coming guys!!! Thanks so much!!!

Thats good to hear! I thought it looked pretty cool...
Several people have told me about the coolant filter... I have been trying to look and see if that is something I can do my self.. Is there a kit that you recommend?
And yes although I dont dog my truck I do test out the grin factor on occasion

Any other ideas for future and current matenience? I want to drive this baby till 500k...

No matter how you put it, diesels do not like cold weather.
Give it a minute or two to warm up --- or 5 minutes to 10 minutes when it gets to below 0F.
Then drive it real carefully (2,000rpm max) until it is quite warm.
Use a block heater when it gets cold --- it is there for a reason.
I am a believer in synthetic --- especially when it is nearly the same price as dino Rotella.
Change filters religiously.
Change coolant PROPERLY and flush with VC-9 as per Ford spec.
I still don't have a fuel pressure gauge -- though I may get unlazy and do a mechanical gauge under hood.
Cetane boost --- if your area have bad fuel.
Oh... avoid any biodiesel as long as possible (even those "slight" blends though in your area you may have no choice.
Keep all fuel and other receipts.

I have the dieselsite coolant filter, recently some discussion
has gone on about 1 of the fittings in that kit being a possible
weak link here:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...with-pics.html
The dfuser kit is nearly identical but has a supposedily "better" fitting.
Either will be fine, It it were me, I'd go with dfuser since the recent
issue with the fitting has surfaced.

Just ignore the part about the BB

Thanks Gearloose1! I was waiting for you to chime in with some of your wisdom!
When you say to keep receipts... why would I keep fuel receipts?
I do always use the block heater when it gets cold and I do let it warm up before driving... I also dont push it over 2k rpm when its cold...
Thanks so much for chiming in!
