Can I put a '91 302 into my '73 F-100? (EFI to Carb)
Hey all, my '73 F-100 with a 302 needs a new motor, and a buddy of mine has a '91 F-150 with a 302 and he offered me the motor for a fair price. He says that if I put my intake manifold, carb and headers on it, it should work. However, I have other concerns... Will my mechanical fuel pump work with a motor that new? If it doesn't I can switch to mechanical, so that's not too big a deal. Also, will my distributor fit in there? Any info you have regarding the matter would be greatly appreciated, I don't know a lot about compatibility between new and old motors.
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

My brother put a brand new 96 351w from ford in his 81 F-150. I know the intake and carb will work. He was able to use the mechanical fuel pump but I think on the 91 302 there will not be a hole for it. You will need an electric fuel pump. Also you might need a different gear on you distributor if it is a roller cam motor. Not sure if a 91 302 is.

If the distributor gear is different, would I be able to keep the one on the new motor? I'm in a different state until December so I can't really look at the motor in as much detail as I'd like.
If possible, I'd like to keep the motor carbureted. I have a nice Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley carb on my busted motor, and I'd like to put them on the new one. Other than the fuel pump and distributor, anything else I need to worry about? It's mounted to a C6, which I've heard is pretty common, so it should mount up?
Thanks,
Jeff

Good idea on the timing chain and water pump... While that "new" (used) motor is still outside the truck, is there anything else I should do to it? I'm guessing the oil pan gasket could be a good idea, seeing as how it's a nightmare job in the truck. Anything else?
Really appreciate all the info everyone. I'm off at college right now up in Washington, and the truck is in California with a blown head gasket (it sat too long with water in the cylinders and now the cylinder walls are pitted), so I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row for when I come home in December for a few weeks.
Thanks,
Jeff

Your camshaft might not have the pin for a fuel pump eccentric mine didn't
I did make it work though I can't remember how
it involved grinding on the side of a bolt
I swapped the timing cover flexplate intake and distributor gear when I did this
Distributor gear only needs swapped if it has a roller cam
Yours shouldn't
