Glowing exhaust manifolds
#21
I feel for ya bro, after seeing your posts a few goofy things came to mind;
Previous owner replaced the manifold from one he found at the Trinity test site.
It'll take just a jiffy to cook hot dogs in your engine compartment.
An on board alternative to LED underbody accent lights.
I remember just prior to failure on an old CJ 5 Jeep I had one of the headers was glowing, I could only see this at night but it wasn't bright orange either, shortly thereafter a silver dollar sized hole appeared and I went to a new set of Hookers. I suppose it's time to take 'er in to the Ford garage and hopefully they'll have a current TSB and knowledge to find what truly is the culprit. Best of luck to you, sincerly.

Long story short, my father and I are traveling cross country in our rv. We're stuck in va bc we had a faulty fuel injector that needed to be replaced. Fixed that and cleaned the rest, but when we went for a test drive we noticed the exhaust manifold glowing bright orange.
So we've replaced the:
Plugs and wires
Cap and rotor
Map
O2 sensor
Removed the cat and put a 3" exhaust
IAT sensor
Changed fuel filter
Fuel pressure regulator
Replaced vacuum lines and checked for leaks (18 in-hg with a .5 variation at idle)
Checked base timing (set at 10)
Tps read smooth resistance
Coolant temp sensor reads ok
Egr opens at low gear/rpm not wot
Replaced ignition module
We get a pinging/hesitation under heavy load
So we're towing a 24 foot car hauler and will be under load the whole way across and have no idea where to turn next. This sucks..
Thanks for any input, really, we're desperate
