another cold start with some dumb questions

Well had good luck with my 6.0 so far until the cold came. Well ive narrowed it down to not be the glow plug modual being as mine is new plus itll throw an enigine code. And know its not ficm cause it does blow white smoke after start up for a min. I have no way to check glow plugs or injectors... Other than a mechanic and these days theyre expensive. Also somebody told me to try to plug the block heater in... Looked and im unable to locate it. Heres the dumb question. If mine is equiped with one where is it? Also what can i do to check glow plugs cause i dont think it would be my injectors.

What its doin.... Turn the key wait for the lights to go off, wait bout 5 more seconds then try turns over for bout 5-7 secs buwts off dies immediately. Turn the key off wait a sec... Turn it back on wait... Turn it over turns over 3-5 secs busts off sometimes stayin cranked sometimes gotta do the same process one more time. Third time gets it tho. Itll pulsate for a couple mins the smooth out. Then it sounds kinda like a knocking for a few mins then idles fine. Oet it warm up. Then itll increase rpm on its own kinda like a high idle moe but i hqvent done one to it turns off like a high idle also (press the brake and it goes back to normal idle) sometimes itll idle doen by itself... I dont know whats goin on with the truck. I love it and baby it but i mitht be starting to regret getting it. Pleqse help me....

Your 07 has a block heater but it probably didn't come with the cord. There are a couple of threads addressing this issue and where to get one for the best price. A code scanner is also an invaluable tool to help with diagnosing problems. What weight oil are you running and how cold is it where you are? You could still have FICM issues even though it smokes on startup. Your glowplugs stay active for at LEAST 30 seconds after the wait to start light goes out. Longer if it's colder. Also have your batteries and charging system checked as hot batteries are critical to cold starts and FICM health.

FOR ALL READING: This is the coldest weather some have experienced in a LONG time. Diesels HATE starting in cold weather (for the most part) Oil and GOOD batteries are critical parts of this procedure. Block heaters help--3 hours plugged in makes a HUGE difference (plus an immediately warm truck on a cold morning is NICE).

If you have the cord, you will find the plug tucked inside the bumper, around the area of the passenger side tow hook. The heater itself is on the passenger side of the block, above the starter. If you don't find the plug in the bumper, then check the heater element to see if a cord is present.

The heater is on the right rear of the engine above the starter motor.

- white smoke briefly after starting is normal in cold.

- use Diesel anti-gel, and also cetane boost.

I got the motorcraft batteries id like to have gotten somthing.better but money was tight for christmas, well it was 24 this morn and other than the normal 5-7 sec turn over time she cranked right on up. I do run the ford cetane booster in every other tank, should i be adding another product on top of that? Also every oil change i do shove 3 cans of seafoam in the tank and run her clean then start back on the cetane. Welp maybe that fixed my problem and i can save for my gauges and tuner now. Thanks for the advice

5w-40 synthetic oil if you are not using it is the biggest help to cold starting.

Motorcraft batteries are actually the better ones on the market.

Go to cetane boost / antigel in every tank for the winter.

Your wobble IIRC is from inproperly balanced tires (there are certain speeds that seem to control that stuff)! Could be a bent whl too. But I dont personally know anyone that owns a superduty, that doesnt have a wobble, shimmy or shake!

Well gone through a couple cold spells with the new batteries and reflash, granted it does 10 times better it still has a little hesitation 5-7 sec of turning over before cranking. is that normal?

Also i thought bout a 4" lift but got talked out of it due to maybe causing problems i dont want but what about a leveling kit? Any flaws to a leveling kit? Gonna try to get 33" cepek fcll on incubus 20" rims when taxes come back and i want it leveled out. then ill try an alignment to fix my bounce.

If it really is 5-7 seconds (cranking usually seems longer than it really is) then that is not good.

I don't see above where you went with a 5W synthetic. Did the dealer use 15W? The 5W might help, but that is a pretty long crank in my opinion.
