Manual Locking Hubs, do they interchange?
OK here is my issue. I am not a fan of the automatic locking hubs on my 92 F-150. The fact they need one revolution to engage kind of sucks when you get the truck suck in 2wd. 4x4 is useless if the hubs aren't locked.
I have a 83 F-150 4x4 for parts and it has manual locking hubs. Is there any chance in hell that I can swap these hubs with the 92? Or is everything different to make it a large pain.
If its a bolt on job, I would rather have the manual hubs, if not i'll stick to the automatics
Thanks!

never done the hub swap myself but i'm pretty sure they can be swapped. you probably have a Dana 44 in the 83 and a Dana 50 in the 92. Warn lists the same part for 82-92 in almost all trim levels. You'd have to ask another user with a newer truck how to convert back. it may require changing transfer cases if to go to a manual shift in t-case instead of the push button... Not sure...

You can use the manual locking hubs in place of the auto's but for some Dana 44's there is a conversion kit you need to buy. If i remember it's just new axle nut's. Since you have a parts truck you could use whatever you need or don't need from that, even the wheel hub if need be. The push button is only for the transfer case and has nothing to do with the hubs. It's no different then the floor shift and does the same thing. So you'll be fine there.

Yes, all F150's from 80-96 did have the D44, most F250's have the D44 too, only the HD version with 8 lugs and bigger knuckles & brakes. Most extended cab F250's and some HD reg cab's had the D50, along with 80-most of 85 F350's
