couple gauge questions

Well finally got my fuel pressure gauge installed and working (oil pressure gauge used) and it reads about 62 psi whether its just idling or wot. Does this happen?

Also got the edge in sight and sometimes the diff in oil temp to coolant temp is a couple higher than 15, could I flush the coolant and hopefully save my oil cooler. I installed a coolant filter about a year ago. When should I replace the filter?

if u put the coolant filter year ago , im sure it needs to be replaced. u should have replaced it 2 or 3 mo after initial install.

flushing the coolant might not help you , if your coolant filter was clogged than your EGR and Oil cooler filter out the rest of it.

i hope im wrong here but looks like u going to need EGR cooler replaced. while you there why dont you just delete it, or block the exhaust from going there.

and as far as fuel pressure gauge its good that u getting 62 PSI . where did you tap in to for the reading? anything lower than 45 is bad. you good, and i dont know whats done to your truck but if its stock you a golden. if u have tuner and it holds 62 st WOT you have the best build truck ..

good luck

I'm gonna order a replacement tom.
The egr delete is on my list. I think ill just block the exhaust. Have many people done this?

Ya those readings are with my programmer off. Haven't had it on with,my new gauges. But I thought it should fluctate some under wot?

I blocked off my egr cooler, I had a friend weld the two end shut. I've also seen guys use freeze plugs to block the cooler off. Mine has been working good for about two years. I think this is the best way to do the egr cooler delete. They can't tell you did it by looking alone. and if you clear the codes right before you have it inspected, then I think you would be fine also. I also think you need a new oil cooler, don't try to flush it out, it will not work.

Hey guys i just finished oil cooler and welded up egr cooler. got it done today, had to go back in and adjust up pipe to turbo but all is good in 6.0 land now. I would be leary about a flush now, imo oil coolers seem to make good coolant filters. I would change cool filter and keep watching temps, JMO good luck

I would not worry about a FEW degrees of variance in the EOT and ECT. I had a new oil cooler, new HPOP, new egr valve, fulls system flush and a BulletProof Egr cooler installed along with some other mods in June. I started monitoring my EOT vs. ECT in normal driving conditions and while towing my 14,500 lb. 5th wheel over 11,000 feet passes in Colorado. The EOT vs. ECT will vary, but for the most part they will stay within 10 to 15 degrees. Under severe towing conditions I have seen the EOT go as high as 19 degrees over the ECT. Prior to the above mentioned mods, the EOT would go as high as 29 degrees without even towing. I would not worry about the Oil Cooler. The coolant Filter is on my Christmas list.

Mine camps out at 65psi all the time, You should see a difference if you turn on your air conditioner, don't know why but apparently it happens to everyone and is normal.

Regarding the temp differential, that will fluctuate quite a bit depending on speed, load, etc. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but what you are looking for is less than 15 degrees difference running along at highway speed unloaded once your temps stabilize. My ECT runs about 190 and EOT 195, with a degree or two change every so often. Traveling in the mountains, city driving, slower speeds, etc., will cause more of a variance.

I totally agree with your the EOT vs.ECT analogy. The only time my EOT has a problem keeping within the 15 degree range is when I am pulling a heavy load over a pass, by the time the fan kicks in and starts cooling the ECT, the EOT is rising, but it takes a few minutes for the EOT to come back within that 15 degree range. Once I have crested the pass, the ECT and EOT come back within normal range. My normal driving around town will exhibit a range of no more that about 7 degrees of variance between the EOT and ECT

Maybe this will help put the 15* temp into context:

I think the intention of the 15* delta is a way to measure ENGINE coolant flow through the OIL cooler by measuring the effectiveness of the OIL cooler
to cool the oil under a specific set of circumstances.

The generally used criteria for this are:
flat terrain, at operation temp (~190 ECT & EOT) @ hi-way speed (75MPH +/-)

At this set of variables the OIL temp should be no more than 15* over coolant temp. My experience has been outside temp has a slight impact on OIL temp:
ambient of 35*F kept the OIL temps down 1-3 degrees from ambient of 85*F.
- I drove from NC (35F) to FL (80F) after Thanksgiving and monitored.

Under heavy different loads (uphill, towing, etc.) the temp delta isn't defined
so having higher temps and/or larger spreads - temporarily while under heavy load - would be expected.
