Excursion mountain taxi

My bro in law ran across this and sent it to me. I thought it was cool.
YouTube - MOUNTAIN TAXI - ICELAND'S SUPER COOL "SUPER JEEP" TRUCKS

MOUNTAIN TAXI - Iceland 4x4 Off-Road Day Tours & Expeditions - Jeep Tours in Iceland

If you look around the site it looks like they have a few different ex's in thier fleet.

Cool Vid. One of the few applications where 4WD and big tires are actually an asset instead of a liability.

Very cool video.

That other "thing" was a Toyota Landcruiser.
You see a lot of them over there.
It will run circles around that bus anyday

well, the ex was carrying much more speed up the hill....
probably because he needed to - weighs a BIT more than the toyo even on those floatation tires...

Absolutely.
It handled itself very respectfully for such a large rig

The scratching and pawing on the part of the Toy, was likely due to a higher gear ratio in use.
If they toss that bad boy down into 4L, with any kid of gearing at all, it'll idle up that mess without breaking a sweat!

Good to see the full size rigs out there too

They also have a black Ex on 44s. I lived there for some time. They are extremely well put together. The Icelandics are true professionals in 4x4 modifications. Everything they do is very functional. Minimal lift + large tires = good CG and large foot print. Definately impressive truck in person.

I stand corrected sir, your're right, it is a Nissan.
I was paying more attention to the Ford and am used to seeing FJ80's and such over there.
Completely missed the Nissan logo on the grill.

Thanks for catching that.

No worries. I believe it's the Nissan Patrol.
The new Infiniti QX56 is based upon this, and the upcoming Armada as well. It's widely popular in the Middle East oil regimes because of it's size and stellar performance off road.
I saw on a site that they only put around 115mm (roughly 4.5") of lift on these trucks and with massive cutting are able to stuff the 44s and bigger underneath.

Yes, in some cases, the almost completely re-engineer the drivetrain/suspension for thier purposes.

On another site I'm on, there are a lot of pics of them, mostly landcruisers, but a little of everything.

Very cool vehicles

If you watch "Top Gear" on BBC, they've used a Toyota Hilux modified by this same crew, I believe, to drive to the North pole and to the top of a volcano. Some great thought and engineering goes into these mods.

off topic, but the 'American' top gear is lame compared to the Brit version IMHO....

May be the hosts, may be the fact that they can get away with a lot more 'over the pond'
