What type air cleaners and where to buy them

Derrick lane,
The problem we stock 6 cylinder lovers have is that there is not too much aftermarket support for our engines. The one barrel carburetor throat is too small for most "off the shelf" breathers, unless you use an adapter. Beware though, some of the adapters are flimsy and do not seal well.
You might do well to go to the junk yard and get a filter assembly from a 1986 or older model. On the positive side, you could then have warm air directed to the carburetor to prevent carburetor icing during the cold weather.

Combination of parts = air cleaner
The adapter breather nipple broke when trying to drill it through and it still hit the choke housing. So between the lawnmower air cleaner and the adapter and some epoxy I made a base that would work with a 5 1/8 air cleaner. The air cleaner is a 6 1/2"
This is what i came up with i think it will work good but will be keeping an eye on it. And still looking for a better set up.

Classic Inlines has come out with an adapter for the smaller Autolite 1100's. Comments are suggesting one for the larger Carter carbs. We'll see.

The biggest problem i had finding an air cleaner is the choke housing is 7/8" higher than the carb throat . So the cleaner base has to rise 1 " above the part that goes onto the carb throat. And then the hood clearance is the other issue. I have the one i made on and it seems to work good the breather is finely doing what it is intended to do. And no more condensation in the crank case/ dip stick tube. The air cleaners on the site classic in lines would not work without a spacer to raise the cleaner base. But they look good.

Hopefully he'll start making one to fit. He mainly sells for small blocks, but is trying to expand to the 300's. I have a 250ci with the Carter YF and the air cleaner base is formed to clear the choke. It's running a 2x12" diameter filter, but got no idea what it came off of, it's modified. Can't even take a pic. I have the whole engine crated up to ship.
