OK I'M HAVING A TAPPING NOISE IN MY 2003 HARLEY, DEALERSHIP WANTS TO TELL ME IT'S THE ENGINE BUT OIL AND ALL FLUIDS ARE GOOD. THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHATS WRONG. ALL THEY COULDTELL ME WAS LOOK FOR A MOTOR. AN OLD SCHOOL MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT WHEN I TOOK MY OIL CAP OFF WHILE THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND THE NOISE DIDN'T GET LOUDER IT WAS NOT MY MOTOR. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS???

I would check your plugs.
How loud is the tap? I know my injectors have a faint "tap" that happens all the time?

well if its a rod knock , the damage is already done and will get worse, rather quickly. All it needs is a short time without oil getting to the right places to start., usually during extremely cold starts and revving up while cold, or oil too thick in cold weather..
How did it start doing this? Lets know the full story, that will help alot.
