Enjoying my 2010 Ford F350 5.4

Can't say enough about my 2010 Ford F350,xlt,SD 4x4 Fx4, extended cab long bed, dark blue pearl, chrome front end, alloy wheels with chrome caps and running boards. 5.4, 3.73 rear, 5Spd torque shift. Bought it used with 9,000 miles on it. Neighbors compliment me all the time. I use it as my every day driver. 12-14 mpg. Work or play - Hauls my firewood, dirt bikes, hunting gear whatever and pulls my rv just fine. Love the power heated mirrors.
Only been on this site for a while and been doing alot of reading mostly but thought I would pipe in on how much I am enjoying my 5.4. Seems there is alot of dissing the 5.4.. well, maybe because I am older now and go slower now. I don't think my 74 F100 with the 302 or my 84 I-6 or 91 Econoline I-6 have anything over on my new/used 5.4. It moves fine in traffic and scoots and pulls just fine on the highway.
Buy what fits your life style for work and play.
No Mamby pamby land for me,,,just my 2 cents,,,,Tissue
Ha Ha Everyone have a great holiday season.
Cheers.

Yeah i hear you on the haters, but i was enjoying myself while pulling my dad's 6.4 Powerstroke to the shop around 80 miles away on a HD trailer with my Super Duty with the 5.4 and that towed it very nicely with no problems at all. you had to be easy on the take off's at lights but it did just fine with the trailer/load weight at 14,000. And yes i am sure people will say a diesel pulls better, and i will reply and say if you buy it for me i'll drive it but i love my 5.4 Duty and plan to buy super duty's till i kick the bucket

I know what you mean about the haters I dout it has anything to do with age, as I am 24 and driving a nearly identical truck to yours, exept it is an 08 F250 with a white and silver paint job

This truck is my everyday work truck for site inspections and survey work. In my freetime, it hauls my 3horse trailer and camping gear or 2 sleds all over the province as well as hauling firewood.

I am glad I got the camper package with the heavier springs and overloads though. Hopefully I can afford a camper in the next couple years.

I as well like my 5.4 F250. I traded up from a 2004 F-150 with a 4.6 to my 2008 F-250 with the 5.4. The 150 towed my 7000 lb 5th wheel OK, but after scaling it it was over-loading my rear axle as well as GCVW. Enter the F-250. The only thing I can complain about is fuel mileage. I just feel that for the power level that the 5.4 seems to be using I feel it should be getting a couple more MPG. Best I have seen is just under 15 mpg. Daily driving the F-150 got 17. Traveling the same route now gets me less than 14 mpg. Hoping to add programmer for power and MPG as well as maybe changing to 4:10 to work the engine a little less and maintain OD more.

Mpg's

I actually hit 16.7 hauling 500 lbs running 70 on hwy. Surprized me. I have a friend with a 2004 5.4 2v, he said averages 15-17 and has 134,000 on it. I only have 13,000 on mine, so I am looking for better mpg's as milage increases. Running Mobil1 synthetic 5w20 w/Motorcraft oil filter, added one bottle of militec at 12,000(no dry startup).
Good luck with programmer, I have read guys doing programs and k&n and It did not increase mpg. I would think the 4.10 would help though, easier pulling gears, less throttle.
So far I am happy with mine, I am comparing it to my 2002 Chevy that had a 4.8, 3.73's. Though the Ford is a much bigger truck, the gas is comparable. My brother has the chevy 6.0L with 4.10's and he said "On a good day hauling nothing, he gets 11mpg". I had looked at a new Chevy 2500 but for 2011, Chevy is giving you a 6.0 gas or diesel, 6 speed tranny with 3.06 gears(I thought it was a typeO on the window sticker). I couldn't buy into the street gears. Kept thinking about pulling a rv through the colorado mountains. Street gears for pulling, tranny wouldn't get out of 4 gear. Anyway... Enjoy and have a good one.
Again Good luck.

Still enjoying my 2010 F350 SD 5.4L. Been reading posts and dissing the 5.4 still going on. Just wonder why Ford would put the 5.4 in a F350 if they thought it could not handle pulling the truck and a trailer. Sure glad I didn't go bigger or diesel due to the gas situation. Seems it is all about the Hp,Image which in turn is alot more Cha-Ching. I still get alot of positive comments and my truck is stock.
Enjoy.

Love the 5.4s. I was looking at getting a f150 with the 5.4 in it but found a 99 250. Love the super duty drive train. Pulled a tree over that was six inches diameter. Love the durability!

I have a 97 F150 with a 2v 5.4 and I love my truck/motor combo. I will be upgrading to a f250 crewcab 4x4 in the next few years. My truck will have the tried and true 5.4. (hopefully a 3v version for a little more power and torque)

Personally, I love all the 5.4 SuperDuty hate. It means I will get a GREAT Deal on a used one when it comes my time.

Jerem
