I have a 2003 f150 s.crew 5.4 4x4.automatic trans. Truck seems to be running fine. I've noticed recently that if I accelerate quickly (pass on highway) and when the truck down shifts, there is a short screeching noise like a belt sound. This is the only time the sound is made. any ideas???

 

Whens the last time you put a new belt on it?

 

Check the tensioner while you're replacing the belt.

 

No Idea when a belt was last put on. I bought the truck few weeks ago, so still under 30 day warranty. I want to make sure the dealer doesn't try and pull the wool over my eyes when i return it to be fixed. Since the truck is running fine (besides the screech) I thought maybe it was just a belt, but i wanted to see if you folks had ever seen this to be the beginning of a bigger problem.

 

If I were you, just put a new Goodyear Gatorback serpentine belt on it. Gates also makes a very good belt!
Then if your screech continues, let them check it out.
But most times it's just the belt slipping.
Also ,make sure it is not low on power steering fluid.
