Wiring my truck with a 21 circuit EZ wiring harness. My question is has anyone done this using the stock light switch and this harness. I have the stock diagram, but it doesn't seem that things hook up the same. I have the front and rear left park lights connected where they should be and they also feed the right parks, front and rear. I have a dimmer wire, headlight power and instrument lighting. It seems that something should go on the main power lug that is fused.

Any help or revised diagram would be greatly appreciated.

 

Is the EZ kit setup to run a GM switch?

 

Yes the EZ harness has a plug to plug directly into a GM switch. Your 55 switch is for 6 V pos ground. You will need to swap it for a 56 12V neg ground switch or better yet buy the GM direct plug switch from EZ wire. There may be a way to wire your switch, but I wouldn't trust a 60 year old switch that most of the truck's original wiring was run thru.

 

I am interested in this also so my ? Can you use a relay with the old switch to lower the currant going through the switch with May be a block or something for the rest of the elect circuits?

 

Did you call the EZ folks and ask? Might pay big dividends. Just a thought.

Thanks for the input. This is a 12V light switch not the old 6V. I did contact EZ and they advised to put headlight power to the B post. So I did.

I started testing. When I connected the positive cable to the battery, I realized that I had my hazard flashers on, 3 of 4 worked. So with indication. I thought I was good to go. I went to the run position and the electric fan came on as I have it wired, I got the diagnostic sweep of the tach and speedometer and gauges seemed to be working. So with that I decided to switch to start position. Within a second or so, the battery exploded. I have double checked all the connections on the switch and they are correct.

Do any of you know what could cause this. I also have an email into EZ.

Hope you weren't anywhere around the Battery. I had one blow up almost in my face. Bloodied my nose and ate my cloths including a heavy coat almost down to my underwear. Had some issues with my eyes as well.
The explosion indicates you had a Very Good short!

 

It does not mean it won't happen but I have had two batteries explode while I working as a mechanic and all the others I have heard of exploding had an internal issue in the battery. That caused the spark inside the battery case that caused the hydrogen gas to ignite, think Hindenburg.

 

I believe I found my problem. While testing/buzzing wiring. I found that both large posts and the I-post on the solenoid buzz for continuity on the installed solenoid. On a new one which I hope is good. Neither large posts buzz, but the I-post does. I don't think the installed one is fuzzed together. I also need to install the fusible link wire to the red battery wire.
