OT - Side projects (includes Ford truck parts)
Being the master of procrastination that I am, I keep finding other projects to get involved in instead of cleaning the garage so I can get to my truck.
I have had this old Lincoln welder for numerous years. My Uncle gave it to me, it had been sitting for many years without running (out in the weather). When I got it the engine would turn but it wouldn't make a complete revolution. I think one of the valves was stuck. I sprayed some oil in the combustion chambers and down the exhaust and then got busy with other things.
I dug it out a couple of weeks ago, cleaned it up a bit and started messing with it. The engine is a 18hp Onan 2 cylinder. By working the engine back a forth a bit I was able to finally get it to make a complete revolution. After a couple of turns it spun around smoothly. I pulled and cleaned the tank, made sure the fuel lines weren't plugged and the fuel pump worked. Pulled the top of the carb and cleaned the main jets (plugged) and tried to start it. Not an easy task with a pull rope. After doing some internet research I found that the thing does have electric start. It has a 24V starting circuit. I dug up a couple of batteries and wired them up. Got the thing to crank over, it fired off belching all sorts of crap and particles form the exhaust pipes and settled into a nice smooth idle.
My plans are revamp this little trailer and mount the welder in it;
Should make a neat little package
