Steering wheel Swap

As far as I can tell, this hasn't ever been asked on this forum. I was wondering if it is possible to swap out our steering wheel with an '08-'10? I ask because I like having the audio controls on the steering wheel, and as far as I know, there wasn't a stock wheel ever made for the '99-'07s with the audio controls. Please correct me if I'm wrong, cause I think it would be SO much easier if I am.

If you do this, be sure to take lots of pictures. We love seeing pictures.

And remember airbags go BANG, so if you need any pointers, let us know.

05+ have HVAC and audio controls on the right side of the wheel. I'm actually trying to figure out right now in the SuperDuty section whether the cruise control on these wheels will plug-n-play. Pretty sure the mechanical parts of the wheel aren't an issue, just whether the buttons will work without wiring hassles. These wheels also came on 02?03?+ Excursions, 98-02 Navigators, maybe a couple others, perhaps the Expedition Eddie Bauer of the same vintage as the Navigator. Any Ford wheel with 2 spokes and an airbag and came in a truck that has automatic climate control should be the same as the ones I'm talking about.

I was hoping that there was one I could just swap out. I'll just have to find someone who sells them, and get the money for it.....

If you want the audio controls and climate on the wheel, an '02+ excursion would have what you are looking for BUT you will need a new clockspring as well as the wiring harness and compatible radio headunit, as well as the EATC if you want the climate controls to work. If you use an '05+ steering wheel, the cruise control buttons need resistors added to them as the computer looks for certain resistance values to determine what you are wanting to do... I have no idea of the values but know that someone had been trying to do that a while back. Easiest would be an 02 Excursion, then get the HVAC controls, headunit, CD player, and harnesses in addition to a NEW clockspring. I wouldn't trust a used one.

Does anyone know where I can get one online? I feel like everywhere i look no one has any, though I usually miss things that are right in front of my face. Makes PS maintenance a nightmare sometimes.

If your steering Wheel doesn't have it now then your radio will not have the features to accomadate the wheel controls. You will need a Wheel and harness or a whole column with wheel and a radio.

I will be replacing my radio after Christmas(that is, if Santa is listening ), and the one I want can be upgraded to use the steering controls for a few extra bucks. Unfortunately this may all be a moot point. Just found out my job may not exist after Christmas........

That happened to me in 08. I am still trying to recover. I have asked santa & god for that the last 2 years . I think they may be working together to make it happen. Keep your head up and stay out there trying. The only real person you can count on is yourself to make it happen.

This would be the third time I have been downsized this year. I even moved a few states over to recover after the first one. I just happen to find a place to work a few months before they realize that they are broke. Makes me really glad my wife has a good job.

What I wanna know is this:

Does the connector and clock spring (wire harness) have two connectors, one to hook into cruise and then one that goes to the radio? I don't think there'd be any extra modules to have to run through, would there?
