2003 F250 6.0 liter Diesel Lariet driveability issues

I have just made a purchase on a 2003 F250SD Lariat Powerstroke 6.0L diesel with an Automatic trans and 4x4 Super-cab with the suicide doors. I have been test driving it for the last 5 weeks thanks to the previous owner being a friend of mine! I really am starting to love this truck even-though I have been a Chevy guy practically all my life! The only issues with this truck is that there is a slight loss of power as I step in to the accelerator pedal, the truck seems to flatten out until I feather the pedal then it shifts and takes off strong. It does this in every gear and it will shift every time I feather the pedal. When the truck is fully warm it performs MUCH better but NOT perfect. I am not very familiar with Ford's Diesel's I thought and believed that the High Pressure oil pump was at fault!???? I just dont know. My friend showed my the trucks service history! It had its injectors replaced twice the head gaskets and EGR tube were replaced as well as the fuel pump along the frame!
I also have the drivers side exhaust pipe on order as it leaks at the flex pipe. I made a stainless steel clamp to go over the leak that helps seal it until the new part gets here! The truck starts well cold or hot, I make sure that the glow plugs cycle at least twice in the morning or after a long cold soak! I am seriously getting between 13 and 15 MPG U.S. even when the truck is not running as well as it should be!
Any idea's!

My `05 F450 started acting up and the shop we took it to replaced the egr valve and some sensors that got carbon fouled, and they said they put a block off plate in .Now it`s working good again.

My truck has had the EGR & EGR tube just replaced by the previous owner! I am considering installing the EGR deletion kit for my 6.0 liter to prevent any future mishaps!

Be fore warned on disconnecting or blocking the EGR on late model trucks. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...egr-valve.html

Thanks Brickie; that was a very good thread that Cheezit started! Just finished reading the entire thread...man that is a lot of reading!

If I am not mistaken..Most of the information is directed to the 05-06 trucks with very little directed to the 03.

My truck has had the EGR cooler just replaced like about 2-3 months ago ( truck has been sitting before I started to drive it - under a 1000miles) It was replaced as it was apparently cracked!

So is it worth me getting a deletion kit for the EGR? Or should I just put in a block off plate? If the block off is recommended...do you install it between the cooler and the "up pipe" flange? (I think that is the term for the "Y"pipe that is from the drivers side manifold to the turbo)!

That is a tough call.I have one truck with a cooler and it is trouble free and one without and it is also trouble free. The truck without a cooler will not idle properly on stock tuning.I would be more inclined to spend the money on a fresh oil cooler if I were you.The 05 and up has a smarter PCM so it has more memory for fords programmers to work with that's why the later models are affected a little differently by deleting the EGR system. If your coolant is kept clean I see no reason to delete the cooler.Mine was deleted before we had all the knowledge on reasons the coolers were failing. If I had to do it over again I am not sure I would delete it,I think I would spend the money on gauges to monitor oil/coolant temps to nip the problem at the bud.

O.k. Makes a lot of sense to me, I will consider it! I am thinking on a coolant filtration system as well! I would have never ever thought of a coolant filter system before I came to F.T.E. forums! There is definitely a wealth of knowledge to tap into here!

Another thing I would like to know, that maybe someone can tell me! What is involved in changing the drivers side "UP" pipe (the pipe with the flex in it that goes from the drivers side manifold to the turbo down to the passenger side up pipe which joins just below the turbo on the passenger back side of the engine), mine is leaking at the flex. I was told it is about a 4 hour job!
I think they said they lift the cab 4" by removing the 4 cab bolts and putting in a 4x4 wood block. I am not sure that they take out the turbo!
Any insight to this!
