CC horny

Today I was in the middle of about six cars on a two lane highway. We were in a curve to the right with a double yellow center marker. Here comes an idoit passing us all in the blind curve so when he went by me I blew my horn at him. I had my cruise on but not set on a certain speed. A few moments later I realized that my cruise was set at 60mph!! The horn set my cruise, can you believe it? Sorta unsafe, don't ya think?

that happened in my old f350, i dont think its anything broken, my guess is if you hit the horn hard enough it flexs the molded plastic that all that is made up of and the contacts for the switches hit eachother

I'm going to see if mine does that tomorrow. I don't think I've ever used the horn while the cruise was on. does sound unsafe though!!

I was waiting for the guy to have been scared by the horn and drive off the road...oh well, if he keeps driving like that it will catch up with him eventually.

Midnight Mods: Steering Wheel Swap/Mod

You should be able to get an idea of how the wiring works by looking at the pictures in my swap.

there are only 3 wires that operate the horn and cruise.

That's a good link Talyn. Seeing how I had the cruise on but not set I guess I just pushed it 'just right' to set it. Should have been a recall, huh? LOL

well, there really is no "pushed it just right" sorta deal.
I'm not sure what combination of wires sets the horn off, but from what I can tell, the column is a ground, and each of the 3 wires does different things in different combinations.

Though, the way its wired should stop the horn from turning on the cruise control.
DC electronics are finicky like that.

I'll look at my pictures a bit closer and see if I can figure it out.
Might have a loose wire in there.

well, in my picture, the horn is a combination of 2 wires. Black and Purple.

The cruise setings are a combination of Blue and Black. with 2 wires and a ground, you get 3 options.

Then for some reason, the on and off switches are a combination of all 3 wires. blue purple and black.
One probably being shared between the switches.
I didn't take pictures of teh switches when I took them off to clean them, I do apologize.

If necessary, I can get down my old wheel and take some pictures of the wiring in there for you.

Just remember, the purple is yellow, but the other 2 colors are the same.

You might have a wire shorting out in the wheel someplace.
