Replaced relay with wiper one. Havent tried to start it yet today. How do I jump the contacts? I thought the pump was in the tank and had to remove tank to get to it

Good point - unless its a small leak that is right on the edge . . . . of becoming a bigger leak.

Also have her rap on the tank when it won't start in case the pump has a dead spot on the brush/armature.

I meant to jump the fuel pump relay contacts in the power box. It would be pins 30 and 87 as show in the attached pinout drawing.

The pump failed to come on, So it is not the relay. On to the next.....whatever that may be?

Holy Thread Revival!! Having the same issues and couldn't think of a better thread title.

*Crank but won't start*

Sequence of events and symptoms.

Truck died on road. Towed home and in intermittently periods it would start and run for a few minutes then die. Finally got to the point to where it wouldn't restart at all. Turned key on and couldn't hear fuel pump priming. Replaced fuel pump.

Truck ran fine for nearly a year when the same incident happens. Truck died on road. Son ran the battery nearly dead by leaving the lights on while the hazards were flashing. Hooked cables up, started truck and drove for about 6 miles where it died again. Started for about 5 seconds then wouldn't start again. With key on, couldn't hear fuel pump priming. There was also no fuel coming out of schrader valve when depressed and cranking motor. Suspected fuel pump again, so I replaced it again.

Truck runs fine for 50 miles then dies. Had a shop diagnose the issue and it was determined that it was the fuse box. I had the shop buy the fuse box that came with brand new fuses and relays, then I installed it. STILL WILL NOT START!

At this point, I'm extremely frustrated and have sunk over $800 in the past week trying to figure this out. Any more suggestions?

Check the connector on the fuel pump.

On my '99 this is attached on the inside of the frame rail near the tank. In a spot where it catches a lot water and slush.

I had similar problems a couple of years ago and after cleaning the connector all has been well.

Good luck.

If you suspect the fuel pump is not running there is still a lot of wire and stuff between the fuse box and the pump. And other controls that may interrupt the current flow to the pump for various reasons.

Sounds like it's time to get out the DMM and start chasing down the wiring?

If you don't have the wiring diagram that would help a lot, too.

Also a lot of wire between the pump and ground. Time to practice doing voltage drops on both the power and ground sides.

Seems to be fixed.

Installed the new fuse box and it would crank but not start as I had mentioned earlier. Just for curiosity sake, I went back and looked at the inertia switch. Pressed the button and started the damn vehicle.

I guess it could've possibly been tripped during diagnostics or when the fuse box was replaced.

Thanks for all your suggestions...appreciate it.
