Yeah It Auto Glass Place is the way to go, They have stuff to get it out and Save your trim. I took mine to a Local Junk Yard where they install Good Used winshileds cause I had a Crack in mine.(Not a hole in the wall junk yard, Nice Organized one) They did everything for 100 bucks included the new windshield.

Getting the trim off is a job on its own. Then you have to cut the urethane, dig the glass out, bla bla bla. Trust me on this one, I just tried to re-seal mine because of a leak (that the auto glass guy tried to seal as well) and ended up just getting the glass replaced by a shop. I spent $165 for brand new glass, well worth it.

I think auto insurance regs vary by state but here in Ahia you simply taken your truck to a glass place and since cracks and abraided windshields are a safety hazzard you get it replaced under your comprehensive coverage. No deductable applies either. If they want to argue the sandblast hit it with a hammer or

I have had several changed over the years for simply being snadblastd with not even a whimper from the insurers.

They wouldn't cover mine in ID, OR, or WA. I've always had to pay out of pocket (my deductible is $500 currently). Glass repair they will cover and waive the deductible, but not replacement.

I have every tool needed & more than 30 years of experience removing glass , but I still have a pro do the work for me . If anything goes wrong , they are responsible for it ..After you have removed just one , you will be happy to pay someone else to do it ...

We paid 170 for a new windshield in my kids truck this week. One place quoted me 215 then called back later and said 140 but I had already gone with the one that cost 170. I trust that company working in my shop so they always get my business anyway. They came right out to the farm and did it here.

And who gets comp insurance on their truck? Geico is who I've been with for 25 years and they won't give us comp on the obs trucks. They say they are too old. Just liability. So I carry a 45 instead. That's my theft insurance. And I have really brite lights on it. That's my insurance against people getting too close to me on the road. The steel step bars and bumper at windshield height for most cars are a deterrent too.

Like I said insurance laws vary state to state. Here a certain level of insurance is required to obtain your tags. Ours is with Auto Owners, best Ins company I have ever used period. We added my 97 F-SD with full coverage for less than $200 per year BUT we get a small fleet discount, long term insured discount, low usage discount, Old age discount, safe driver discount, pay yearly discount, da da da. Hard to say what it would cost a single 20 year old with bad driving record and no other insurance with them for unlimited miles per year?
