e4od shifting issues when cold
So let me start by saying, I tried searching the site for similar threads, but just couldn't quite find what I was looking for. But anyway, I drive a 95 Bronco EB w/ a 351w and E4OD. I have about 148000 on the truck too. The only issue Im having is when its cold outside, it wont shift completely into OD, the RPMs only drop about half what they normally do when the truck is warmed up. And after it does warm up, the tranny shifts fine. It doesn't seem like its slipping either, so Im not sure exactly what could be the issue. Im not very familiar with transmissions and was hoping someone with more knowledge than me might have some ideas or suggestions on what my issue might be.

Does it shift normall after just a few minutes at freeway speed? The trannies delay their shifting when the fluid is really cold, usually a few hundred RPM difference between cold and warmed up. That's the way my Chebby, Ford and Mercury trannies were when I lived in the frozen wasteland of the NW.
If I recall reading, the computer delays locking the converter to generate a little heat for the fluid when it is cold.
148,000 miles is a fair amount though. You might be getting to where a rebuild is in order.
Good Luck,
Jim Henderson
