It's an old school thing Badger. I would only do that today just to see if it ran and had any cracks so to know if the block was salvageable. For an engine I was gonna drive I would put in new. But most new gaskets are sandwiched and thicker so ya will lose compression over the thin tin one if that is what it had. I don't know if ya can still get the thin ones or not. We used them for dirt track racing as it was easier than milling the head to up compression.

Old school works for me. I don't know either on gasket availability. Up till now I've been drooling over v8 parts catalogs. Also, I have read many times that flat 6 parts are harder to come by. I'll have to start looking when I get a little more time.

She loves to help out in the garage even in her pink dress!

ya know what else is funny is I can remember holding her on my lap while reading FTE when she was a baby and she learned to do this quite often from seeing the smilies on the side. lol your post reminded me of that.

BAdger Hound,
I have reused a intake manifold gasket on a v8 but usually the fiber head gaskets are toast by they time you get the heads off that I would imagine you would never get it sealed back up again if reused, but maybe if the surfaces look ok??? I haven priced the straight 6 gaskets yet but the v8 ones seem pretty pricey to me.

Hey 51PanelMan,

I found them in the north bay, and I'm in the south bay near Santa Cruz.

Josh,

Thanks for the advice! Looks like I need to do a little more homework on parts pricing...

You're welcome to stop by anytime. I'm just over the hills in San Jose.
