Steering Stabilizer...Whats it do

sort of like a shock absorber...helps keep 4 wheel drive steering linkage from behaving really 'twitchy'...
Not such an issue with 2 wheel drive vehicles because they generaly have more toe-in..and steering is fairly stable(Unless worn ball joints or tie rod ends come into play)
4 wheel drives are usually set up with less or no toe-in...and need a stabilizer on the drag link to make them more stable and driveable.
My take on the deal anyhow...

It basically was once installed to keep the wheels from causing the steering wheel to kick back when making a tight turn or when hitting a rock or other hard object io a trail. High speed off roaders use them so if the front wheels come off and they land turned the steering will not turn and take your arm off.
I once had a 4x4 with solid knuckle front axle. That type of axle had a very small turn turning radius without jamming the steeering u-joints. The steering wheel would beat up the driver on tight circles. The stabalizer helped.
On modern vehicles with POWER STEERING and little or no wheel kickback to the steering wheel, the stabalizer is mostly for show.
Spend that money of something worrth while, like more fuel.
