Tire question.

Hey guys, I need a bit of help here. I am horrible with these wheel to tire sizes and load ratings etc.

Okay, the first question. I have an 87 F-250 Lariat 4X4 diesel. The wheels on the truck are stock 16.5" steel wheels, but I do not know the wheel width. Will these tires fit my stock wheels?

37 inch Mud Tires Goodyear MT Humvee Pull-Offs Set of 4 - eBay (item 320470875105 end time Nov-30-10 17:22:55 PST)

I notice these say they are 12.5 inches wide, is that too wide for my wheels? Will they hold the weight of my truck?

Any help is MUCHLY appreciated.

Do you have any kind of lift, without at least 4 inches those tires arent fitting.

I would imagine that those are too wide for stock rims of that age, as well as too tall without a serious lift.

Unless someone swapped out your rims, I think you'll find you have 16's, not 16.5

Also, you'll probably rub things (fenders, bumper, springs) with a tire that wide and no lift. Plus, you need load range E for your truck.

your stock rims will be 16 inch diameter, and 7 inch wide.

Get rid of the 16.5 rims, if that is the size. They are dangerous. Those 12.5 wide won't fit.

Why are 16.5" rims dangerous? How come 16" or 17"s are not?

(BTW - I have a 87 F-250 with 16.5" rims - Stock size tires would have been 9.50X16.5" or LT235/85R16 if you do have 16" rims)

Thanks guys. After looking my tires are 16's. Which of these would better fit my truck, and which do you think is the bet6ter tire? They are roughly the same price after shipping.

Either or will fit. Depending on your gearing the 285s will be ok or feel like a dog b/c they are larger tires.

The 255 will also fit and have plenty of room and not cause any power loss on most trucks.

I would get 265s anyways cause 255 is an uncommon size

Thanks for the speedy response. My truck is 4.12's I believe. Did you notice too the 285s are a bit wider? Will this cause any issues? I was thinking the 255s personally because I know BFG makes a good tire.

Can somebody help me convert these numbers to inches so I know what I'm getting into? As far as height and width.

265-70R16-GUARD-DOG-M-T-(D) - Retread Tires from TreadWright, Inc. Just for comparison's sake....WAY cheaper, and an excellent tire, I run them myself.

4.10 gears probably, 285s will be fine. They are 33x11.5 tires (roughly) and fit fine on the stock wheels.

265s are closer to 32x11.5

Treadwrights are worth it too, very good tires for the coin.

be careful with those recaps. in some states, they are against the law to run them on the steering axle.

I will check into that, but my state is pretty lenient. We don't even have emissions around here.

I like those recaps, but does the load rating D matter? Also, what is the biggest size on those I can safely go with on those with stock wheels and no lift?

Also when I try to add 4 to cart it says quantity available is zero, is it glitching on me or are they out?
