Coil Packs

I stumbled upon these today Granatelli Motorsports and was wondering if anybody's had any luck with them.

Do they work? Any real world experiences? Thanks.

I bought the 25K volt set for just at $200 and with the exception of one failing about a month after installation no problems at all so far. The failed pack was replaced under their warranty so apart from changing it out there was no hassles at all.

Considering the cost per pack OEM's is about $52 each along with an $8 boot Granatelli's are not only cost effective but do add a bit more ummmph and quicker starts. My '00 5.4 l gasoline motor with 240K miles at the time needed plugs anyway and a friend advised me to make this swat at the same time. I kept the old COP's just in case---never hurts to have a few laying around for whatever reasons.

Not sure what the $500 set includes but probably much more than a normal daily driver would ever require. I did notice jumping from 25K volts to the 45K volts was expensive but it didn't seem practical on a completely stock engine.

I'd highly recommend this swap to anyone without hesitation. Mine were purchased from Jeg's which has an online store--Summit Racing as well not to mention many other retailers as well.

Save another $100 plus and get a set off ebay IF you need them otherwise don't waste your money chasing gimmicks. You are not going to get 15% better fuel economy from any set of COP's unless your old ones aren't firing all 8 cylinders. If you want anywhere near 15% increase in fuel economy get Electric fans.

Even funnier is IIRC Fords ignition puts out 60K-80K volts so I am not sure what this 25K is so wonderful for.

Most of the voltage claims are probably exaggerated including Ford--Granatelli possibly as well although they're said to held closer to a minimum output whereas the OEM's may or may not be. I've also heard at best the OEM COP's produce about 13K-15K at the plug tip which is significantly less than the advertised 60-80K. There has to be someone more knowledgable about the specifics of this though. I don't know, don't really care but have noticed improvement which might be 100% attributable to newer COPs---mine were 10 years old with over 235K miles.

I imagine if good COP's are a gimmick then so is changing plugs or using good oil and filters---could be just my view of that though. Even if Granatelli's aren't nearly perfect one still can't be their full retail price of $200 especially when compared to OEM replacements. Even at the best prices from Ed The Parts Guy here on FTE you're looking at $480 for genuine Ford parts. Looking at both brands its nearly impossible to distinguish them apart from body color. Gimmicks I won't buy--I will however save $280 any day of the week assuming I'm getting a new product with accompanying warranty.

To my recollection have never seen Granatelli's on FleaBay for anything less than Amazon, Jeg's or Summit Racing offers----I'd love to find a set for $100 because they'd make a great gift for someone.

The electric fan is a great idea------anyone have any direct experience with installation on the E vans? Recommendations or how would you do it better or differently the next time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but in scanning the link, it appears that those COPs are limited to 2 and 4 valve modulars as none are listed for the 3 valve 5.4s, many of which are in the later model SDs.
